Cannot read disc, unable to recognize..........HELP

We recorded on the Canon DC210 cam corder and my husband went to take still pictures and the disc that was in there came up saying "unable to recognize recording disc."
We did not change the disc, nor finalize it, because it still had alot of room on it and wanted to continue on it.
I took the disc out, and replaced it back in, and then the camera tells me that it is reading it, (takes a good 2mins) and then tells me that it cannot read it.
I went to put it on my computer and my computer keeps telling me to insert disc, when it is in there.
I placed it in our Sony DVD player for the TV and it won't read it there either.
Have we lost everything on it?
How do we fix this??
I have precious movies on it.

Camera was returned and received a new one and still the same problems.

Yes it is plugged into the wall, and well, yes, we are trying to finalize it and still can't.

The menu for it to be finalized is not highlighted.

Canon------------NO HELP whatsover on this matter.

They blamed the manufacture of the "recommended" discs.

JVC, Memorex, same thing, no help, just put the blame back on Canon.

This is the worst camera that I have ever had, especially with customer service support.

I am getting rid of this thing tomorrow!

Make sure you are in the mode to view the videos you recorded and make sure the camera is plugged in to the power supply, then the finanlize option should be available

Not recognizing mini dvdrw

DVD-R discs can be used with no preparation, but a DVD-RW must be initialised before it can be used for the first time.

You may also have to initialise a DVD-RW if you get the message "UNABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE RECORDING MODE OF THE DISC" .

Also, make sure you always use DVD "minus" format discs - the DC210 will not work with any DVD "plus" format discs.

When you initialise the disc you will be asked to chose between Video mode and VR mode. Most DVD players will play a Video mode disc, but a VR mode disc can be edited with the camcorder. My preference is Video mode - I can then play on a DVD player and edit on a PC.

Don't forget to rate this solution once you've tried it !

Dvd to prints

You can either
1. Transfer the still pictures from the camcorder to the PC, and then, either
1.1 use your PC software to print the pictures, or
1.2 use an online photo processing lab to print the pictures for you.
OR
2. Take the disc from the camcorder to a local photo printing shop and ask them to print the pictures you want printed.

But first ...
before you can transfer pictures or video from your Canon DC210 to your PC you need to finalise the disc in the camcorder.

You also need to make sure that the DVD drive on your PC is capable of reading a DVD-R, DVD-R DL or DVD-RW format as these are the only disk formats that the DC210 will handle. Not all PC DVD drives can read these formats.

To finalise the disk you must have the power adapter connected to the camera, plugged into a wall socket and turned on. Then, switch on the camera, put it into playback mode, Press 'Func.', select main menu, select 'disk operations', select 'finalise'. Don't move or shake the camera or switch it off whilst the finalising step is underway - this could cause problems.

Once finalising is complete, take it out of the camcorder and then follow steps 1.1, 1.2 or 2 above.

Good Luck.

Canon DC210 Camera

The error message is because, either
1. the disc was initialised on another camcorder, or maybe a PC, or
2. The disc has a recording on it in a different TV system (PAL v SECAM).

From the above, it may be you're using the same disc in two camcorders. To be sure of seeing what's on your disc you need to keep it with the same camcorder from 'initialise' to 'finalise' .

To be able to see the disc on a PC you need to finalise it on the camcorder. There's no other way to get to see your work on a PC.

Unfortunately I think you've lost your recordings this time.

Canon DC210 camcorder

The DC210 will only work with with Mini DVD -R or -RW. I had the same problem when the BestBuy salesman sold me +RW Mini DVD with the DC210. I went back to the store and got them changed for +RW and I was then able to use the DC210.

Record on DC210 and playback on home DVD

You should absolutely be able to play the recorded DVDs from your camcorder in your DVD player, as long as you remember to finalize the disc and the disc is compatible with the player. If your DVD player is less than five years old or so, you should be fine, provided you're not using dual-layer discs.

Finalizing a disc (when plugged in) on a Canon DC210

I think it is a problem with the camera.
We had one, couldn't finalize, exchanged that, and still the same problem.
Canon NO help whatsoever.
Even the mini disc companies that we purchased, NO help either.
We are returning this camera and going with a hard drive.
We were able to plug the camera to a DVD recorder and copy onto a full size disc.
