I have just bought a Pyramid SE403G to replace a classic car stereo. Im plugin in a portable mp3 player directly to the input of the equalizer and the speakers directly to the output. Everything works great, the sound quality is spectacular but the level lights dont work while playing music. When I turn it on it makes a small animation with those lights so I know they are not broken. Could this be because the input signal from the mp3 player is not strong enough? Should I amplify it before? I also miss a master volume control knob, could you recommend me something I could use? Thank you very much,

Check the stereo's specs: 4 gb might be too much. It's possible they could limit you to 1 or 2 gb max. Many JVC stereos limit you to 2 gb, this one might, too.

An equalizer and an amplifier are two very different things. The equalizer I have in my car only boosts the power by 12 Watts RMS, but that is not the point of it. I have the amps to power my speakers, and the equalizer for fine tuning the sound. You may want to see how much wattage this equalizer is going to add before you blame it. It may be doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

it seems that you have got a bad equalizer
you should better replace it if possible

Dual XR4110 is an integrated radio/USB unit - it has in it an amplifier.
Pyramid 801 is an equalizer with a powerful stereo amplifier in it . If you want to connect it to the Dual you will need to use the preamp outputs on the Dual to its inputs and then connect all the speakers to it (you will no longer use the power connector from the Dual for the speakers). For a proper wiring the speakers will have to be put in series, not in parallel (one pair per side) - if you put it in parallel the resulting impedance will be 2 ohms and the amplifier in the Pyramid will be damaged; this is what is happening now. Make sure to respect the polarity of the speakers or it will sound badly.
