We were given a lanier copier 5645 for our nonprofit. When we moved it - it won't work. It says the cover is open but its not...help! it won't copy

The switch that detects the open cover is probably broken or stuck. Do this. Lean / press on the cover while trying to copy. Does it work then? If it does, you know for sure that the switch is stuck. If it doesn't, the switch is broken.

How to find this switch? Is there a small plastic tab on the cover that goes into a hole that you can see? Those are usually where the switches for such covers are located. Spray some electronic parts cleaner down this hole (available at auto parts stores). See if this helps any.
