The switch that detects the open cover is probably broken or stuck. Do this. Lean / press on the cover while trying to copy. Does it work then? If it does, you know for sure that the switch is stuck. If it doesn't, the switch is broken.

How to find this switch? Is there a small plastic tab on the cover that goes into a hole that you can see? Those are usually where the switches for such covers are located. Spray some electronic parts cleaner down this hole (available at auto parts stores). See if this helps any.

What is the error doe CS 542 on a Lanier 5645 thanks in advance

I know from experience that the AF2051 (B163) had problems with Fuser Errors. According to Ricoh direct techs after 100K to 200K copies on a new machine the Hot Roller would start to warp (ever so slightly) because of its thin wall construction (fast warmup time). I had 2 situations where I replaced the Thermisors,Themostats and the Thermostat Holders and the problem would keep coming back; after replacig the Hot Roller the problem was resolved (both copiers had between 135K and 165K when the problem developed).

Good Luck feel free for further assistance, rate, if helped

Lanier 5645 copier - Code sc546

Try this press the "yellow/ca" botton, then enter 1-0-7, then press and hold the "red" stop" till the display changes. Once, it changes turn the Main power switch OFF. Not the one on the control pannel. Let it power down then turn it back ON. If the problem is still there try to turn the copier Off again and unplug the sorter/ finisher and turn the copier back ON. Is the problem gone, if so you may have to get a service person come in and repair the sorter. Good Luck.....

Lanier 5635/5645 copier

Now..... 'having to have 3500 sheets in it" doesn't really make sense does it?
No, You have either a safety switch that is out of adjustment, shorted out, or the lever that engages either of them is broken - either on the cover itself, or on the machine, where the LCT slides in /out.

Lanier 5645 paper jamb

The fuser assembly can be removed by sliding it out from the front of the machine. You may have to remove a retaining screw and plastic knob, all are accessed by opening the front copier cover. Unplug machine from wall before attempting this.
