I have a Sony Bravia KDL52S5100 , I connected my PS3 through HDMI and connected external speakers through the 3mm audio out on the side. It used to work fine but now the audio is not playing through my external speakers it plays through TV speakers even when the 3mm pin is inserted. I don't know whether I changed some options that caused this. Any Fix?

This information comes from the online reference book: Using the Sound Menu

Use the remote to open the TV menu. Select the Sound menu, and the "speakers" decision. From the two choices, "TV Speakers" tells the tv to use its built-in speakers. "Audio System" tells the TV to use an external audio system, and disables the internal speakers. Select "Audio System," and check to see if it works. If it still hasn't recognized that there is an external audio system plugged in, you may need to clean the stereo mini jack (3mm audio jack) with a small wooden toothpick or similar small diameter non-conducting device.

I selected audio system from the sound menu but i hear no sound, the tv speakers option do work however. I tried cleaning the audio jack with a thin ear bud, also tried to look inside the jack to see if there is anything that is blocking it, there is nothing, still cannot hear the sound through external speakers. I think it is recognizing the option "audio system" coz it stops the tv speakers when I select it, but somehow not able to send the audio signal through the audio jack port..

SOURCE: audio via hdmi

I had the same problem with the same configuration. In addition to the HDMI which is (DVD and Audio OUT only by the way) you need to connect the TV to the DVD through a high quality SCART cable as well. Remember to connect the SCART cable only while both the TV and DVD are switched off. To get the TV sound out of the DVD surround sound you need to click the FUNCTION key on the DZ230 remote a couple of times till you get the word TV on its screen, this is when you should hear the TV sound coming out of your surround sound as expected. Good luck.

The HDMI splitter is intended to take one source to two displays. You need an HDMI switch to take two sources to one display, a device you can tell which input to select.

SOURCE: my sony bravia has no audio when used as cable tv

Check the connections between the cable box and the TV. If you are using scart check the connector is in squarely if using rgb or composite you need a separate audio connection using the red and white phon sockets.

Connecting speakers.

The speakers cannot be connected directly to the audio outputs. These outputs are for use with an external amplifier. Connecting speakers directly to these audio outputs can cause damage to the set. Thanks

How do i hook external speakers to sony bravia television

The proper way to do this would be to use the audio output from the TV, either analogue left and right or the optical port, and send it into an dedicated amplifier or AV receiver. You can then use the amplifier or receiver to power the external speakers. If you are using a dedicated amplifier with no volume control you will want to change the audio output setting on the TV to "variable out" as oppose to its current "fixed out"settings. You can find this in the TV menu, usually under the audio settings. This will allow you to use the current TV remote to adjust the audio volume coming out of the external speakers.

I want to hook up external speakers to my Acer H213H for when my PS3 is hooked up to it.

What method are you using to connect to the monitor?

If you are using the HDMI -> DVI adapter it does not support sound. HDMI does, but DVI does not.

If that's the way you are set up then all you need to do is use the HDMI -> DVI adapter for your video and use the regular RCA connections for audio.

You can set the video and audio settings in the PS3 with the "Display Settings" and "Sounds Settings"

That way you just use the red and white RCA ends to connect to a speaker system, the yellow won't be in use at all.

Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

I just finished setting up my system last night and was facing similar problems with sound/video from my PS3. The only option I could get working was to have the HDMI cable connected from the PS3 to the TV and then connect the Optical cable to the receiver for sound. I was under the impression that HDMI handles sound and video but for whatever reason the PS3 does not agree.

I have DTS sound and fantastic picture now through my PS3, hope this helps.

Cheers

Toshiba HDTV + SONY PLAYSTATION 3 + SONY Home Theatre DAVHDX265

I have looked up the infomation on your TV I noticed that your TV has two HDMI input plugs. Since your SONY BRAVIA is hooked up to one port, you need to buy another HDMI cable for your PS3. On your tv remote you should have an option to switch from video 1 to video 2 so then you can switch from the SONY BRAVIA to the PS3 the problem is you will only hear your PS3 Sound from you TV. If you want to hear your PS3 sound from your SONY BRAVIA you need to buy an optical cable (also called TOSLINK) to connect from your PS3 to the SONY BRAVIA.

Hope that helps!

Please help with getting 5.1 sound from my TV!

You must run a Digital Optical cable from your PS3 to your reciever. Then press your function button on your recievers remote until you see SAT/CABLE on your recievers display. Next go to your PS3 settings and go to Sound settings, then Audio Output settings, and select Digital out (OPTICAL) then your done. This is the only way to get true digital sound from your PS3 to your reciever.
