Snes controller
It is common for buttons on any video game controller to quit working and it is usually an easy fix.
Assuming the cord is in good condition the problem is internal. Turn the controller over with the buttons down and remove all of the screws on the back. Carefully lift off the back. You are now looking at the back of the circuit board. Look closely at how the cord is routed through the plastic pins as you will have to put it back in the same location. Remove the cord from the pins and carefully lift out the circuit board. Turn the circuit board over and locate the contacts for the buttons. There are four on the left side for the D-Pad, two in the middle for the Select/Start, and four on the right for the A,B,X, & Y. These contacts need to be cleaned. A hard eraser works best. Reassemble everything and it should work fine for quite some time.
