Sounds like somebody messed with the monitor setup on the monitor controls. Check the manual to set it up correctly. If they changed the monitor's Frequency settings, the problems you are having will occur. Gotta set them back to 70Hz and check the other settings. If you need a manual, get back to me with the exact model number of the monitor.

I tried to use my acer as a second monitor and it is connected to my GTX 550 Ti graphics card just like my Benq monitor. Whenever I turn on my computer the acer monitor shows the acer logo and then s

Incorporating a second monitor is a great Idea, I've used three to four on my workstations for many years. Setting up multiple monitors involves more than just hardware, the card manufacturer's software and operating system is involved. Since you didn't note the OS, I'll assume Win7. First, simply right click the desktop, and select "Screen Resolution" to see a page headed "Change the appearance of your displays," below which show be a graphic that shows both monitors with a number "1" and "2" on each. Arrange them by dragging and dropping them to reflect your physical arrangement. Then, select the fourth drop-down titled "Multiple" Displays" and select "Extend desktop onto this display," then click the "Apply" button followed by the "OK." button. If your hardware and drivers are set up properly, you should have everything working at this point. Your Nvidia software should have installed a control panel item that you can use to make tweaks to your system. You can also contact Nvidia technical support for more detailed, OS-specific assistance.

Re ACER V203H 20" monitor - appearance. Why is the image size only 16" with black margins approx 2" on left and righthand sides? I bought this monitor brandnew - thought it was widescreen. If I change...

It is definetly a widescreen the issue is either with your display card or your resolution setting you need to check both. If you would have told me wether your display is through mother board or scsi card the model of mother board or the display card then i could fix the issue easilly.

"input not supported"

what you may need to do is find an accepted screen resolution, as your screen is 19" widescreen and your notebook will be set for a normal monitor display, so either try the auto button on the screen or look at the properties of your graphics card om the notebook to find supported screen resolutions for extended displays.
