Sensor error GE microwave model JVM1660WB001 works normally but doesnot heat

    The
first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

    If that doesn't work,
leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

    When you hit Start to
microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

    Any unusual noises? Is
it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

I had the same exact thing happen...I put in some popcorn, it wouldn't pop. The screen said "sensor error". I tried heating water, a piece of chicken...nothing would heat. I unplugged it, plugged it back in...nothing. The manual says to close the door and hit the clear/cancel button. I could have sworn I had done that, but my wife simply hit the clear button and it started working again good as new. Hope yours does the same. : ))

GE microwave not heating, sensor error.

first suspect is the inverter board (power) and magnatron a distant second----in either case the part involved unless an expensive unit is pricey.

Unit seems to have a sensor problem: wont pop popcorn, or heat cold food but marginly heats water. During popcorn we get error message re. Sensor.

in 99 % of cases the problem is the magnatron it is a very expensive part and unless the microwave is well worth the money we normally write the units off

sorry (

but i hope this helps

Microwave does not heat

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, your symptoms, as well as the answers to these questions:

- When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

- Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

These answers will help me figure out if it's a control-level issue or a problem in the high voltage section.

WILL NOT HEAT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS

Assuming your inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan all come on when you try to microwave, with the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

If the magnetron's bad and it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (5-9 years as per your owner's manual) G.E. will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832 with your model, serial, and manufacturing date.

I have a GE microwave with the message sensor error

Hi,
On GE models, "SENSOR ERROR" appears on the display when:
  • Using the sensor feature, the door was opened before steam could be detected. Do not open the door until stream is sensed and time is shown counting down on the display.
  • Steam was not detected in the macimum amount of time. Use Time Cook to heat for more time.
Thanks.

GE Profile Microwave will not heat

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell which part the microwave needs without opening it up for examination. There are a few parts that, if defective, would prevent the oven from heating.

  • a high voltage transformer which passes energy to the magnetron
  • a magnetron which converts high-voltage electric energy to microwave radiation
  • a magnetron control circuit (usually with a microcontroller)
This is NOT a repair that you would want to attempt yourself. The labor for the repair would cost a minimum of $50 and shouldn't exceed $100. You'll also have to pay for the necessary part if it's still available from the manufacture or their parts distributor.
