The microwave is 2 years old. about 5 weeks ago I noticed a drop of oil hanging from the ceiling in the back right, by the edge of a perforated area in the ceiling. There was a small puddle on the floor; the oil tasted like mineral oil. This has happened about once a week. Today when reheating a cup of coffee, it sounded like there were a few kernels of popcorn in the oven. There was just the coffee, which got hot. any
suggestions about the cause and solution to this problem? Thanks for the help.
This is a very wierd problem that we have been dealing with for years, and never seem to get a correct answer. Have actually seen green slime like oil inside the units before. From what we have heard, is that this oily substance is actually coming out of the blower fan assembly inside the unit. Its like bearing oil from the center support shaft. Will go away over time, but the fan may or may not go bad. Good luck with the mystery oil.
Most likely if this is hood/microwave combo, the oil is actually cooking oil that has made it past the filters and collected on the cold metal inside, and is now finally dripping of the unit. I had the same problem with a GE Spacesaver, and upon investigation, found that the exhaust air has little or no ducting inside the unit, and when I was browning meat etc, the oil drawn up cooking was coating everything inside with cooking oil, and then on warm days, it came dripping out all over the place, including inside the Microwave that protects the spinner.
