Necchi supernova julia power problem

I just "inherited" a Necchi supernova julia sowing machine. It has a 4 prong power plug (including foot pedal) which was already altered in the past and in sorry state. We tried to replace it and now the light only burns when you push the pedal. The motor hums but the machine does not start unless you help it by spinning the wheel manually. I oiled everything and things improved but I fear we did something wrong with the wiring to the plug. My husband is electrician and even he cannot figure out how to connect. Anyone have a tip?

SOURCE: making a buttonhole on a Necchi 3204 sewing machine

Here's what the manual says:

Before sewing, fit the button-hold foot to the machine (long white plastic thing with red, ruler like markings).

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the left hand side. Set the dial to "1" position. Sew the left side and raise the needle.

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the top and bottom. Set the dial to "2" position. Sew 5-6 stitches and raise the needle.

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the right hand side. Set the dial to "3" position. Sew the right side. Raise the needle.

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the top and bottom. Set the dial to "4" position. Sew 5-6 stitches and raise the needle.

Hope that helps...

How to I drop the feed dogs on a Necchi Julia Supernova? There is a knob on the right side of the machine that should drop or lift the dogs, but it doesn't work.

There is a button with two "prongs" or wings. Rotate the prongs clockwise about a quarter turn, to face the square mark (Q in the diagram) then press it down. It will stay down. To raise the feed dogs, turn the prongs anticlockwise (to S in eh diagram) and it will pop up

We have a 48 year old necchi sewing machine and

Dad taught me to service machines when I was about 12. Back then, foot pedals ran on small discs of carbon, and he gave me lots, to service My foot pedal. That was circa 1960. Likely you need a replacement foot pedal. I would look for one on Ebay. Just - where I find all sorts of 'Stuff'.

Can't get part and cam for Necchi Supernova Julia

Try the Necchi Yahoo Group. There are members who often sell parts and they also are very knowledgeable and helpful.. You should also try eBay. They have parts for lots of vintage machines. You may not find what you are looking for right away but look often as things show up everyday.

Usually pedals possess a variable rheostat controller that react with the action of your foot. If it fails to function normally, it suggests that a short circuit has occurred. Generally, that means an internal wire or contact opens up and stops all further activity as you mentioned. The best bet is to take the machine to your local sewing machine dealer for repairs.
