If the loss of suction occurred during wet vac,the float has blocked the discharge vent , and this can be cleared by unplugging vac and emptying tank. if you tip the unit over while running it will close exhaust vent and can be cleared by turning unit off and wait 1 minute and restart unit. The most common causes of loss of suction are dirty filters or a clog in the hose. To troubleshoot, remove the hose from the vacuum, place your hand at the opening of the tank inlet and turn the vac on.
If you feel suction at the inlet, the issue is with your hose or accessories. Check your hose and accessories for a clog. If no clogs are found, check the hose for a hole or crack - even a small crack can cause a loss of suction. If a crack or hole is found, replace the hose.
If you do not feel suction at the inlet, turn the vacuum off and unplug from the outlet. Follow the steps in the user manual that came with the vac to clean the filter. Check the filter for rips or tears; replace with a new filter if any are found. Empty the tank or if you are using a collection bag replace it if it's full. Make sure the filters are properly installed then secure the housing to the tank. Plug the cord into the outlet, turn the unit on and place your hand at the tank inlet to check for suction. If you still do not feel suction at the inlet, turn the vacuum off and unplug from the outlet. Check the tank for any cracks and make sure the drain cap, if applicable, is secured to the tank.
You don't need a new hose. Remove the two Phillips head screws which hold down the wand cover. Be very careful when removing these parts. Pay close attention on how these parts are assembled. They are spring loaded and will fly out the end of the hose assembly when the cover is removed. The wand valve assembly or the nozzle valve assembly or usually the parts that break. start in a spot and wrap tight going down the hose. this is no fix for a steam vac since steam will break through the duck tape it will need to be replaced.check here for replacement parts
Remove the hose and lay it straight. Then using a broom or mop handle, push it into the hose and collapse the hose on the handle as far as you can. (Think crinkling your socks to pull them over your feet). You'll be doing much the same as you pull the hose up onto the handle. If you have no resistance from one end, then do the same things from the other end. Then replace the hose onto the vac and turn on the power. Your pushing with the broom/mop handle should dislodge whatever is caught and the suction from the vac should pull it through the rest of the way. I hope this helps. If so, please rate my solution. Good luck!

There are some hoses that have separate hose ends and some hoses that you have to replace the entire hose the way the manufacturer made the hose. There are some local vac dealers that may have a new, or a good used hose or they also may have a non-genuine replacement hose that you could use. It really depends on the hose that you have and how it was made. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/home_10153_12605 National Customer Relations1-800-549-4505 Home Services & Repairs1-800-4-MY-HOME 1-800-469-4663 Parts Orders & Inquires1-800-366-PART 1-800-366-7278 Don – The Vac Man Go Ahead.Use Us.

Hose connection broken.
Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. If you have a broken hose connection, and not knowing the brand name of the vacuum, I can suggest 2 things. If you have an electric hose, meaning that it is attached to a electric power head or power nozzle, some can be repaired depending on what was wrong, but most of the time you have to replace the hose, some pigtails can be replaced but if the electric connection is broken, you need to replace the hose. If it is a non-electric hose, you can use a shrink tube, or cut out the broken part and use a hose cuff to join them together, so just shorten the hose and screw back on the original ends. In either case you need to check with a local vac dealer. Or you can make a new hose with new ends and leave the canister @ the bottom of the stairs and go up with just the long hose, unless you have an upright then you have to make it the length that is on the upright. Or replace it with the genuine hose from the factory or use the ends from the old hose on the replacement hose. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. TAKE OFF THE HOSE AND PUT YOUR HAND OVER THE OPENING. IF THE SUCTION IS STRONG YOU NEED A NEW HOSE. I JUST REPLACED THE HOSE ON MY 28 YR. OLD OLYMPIA ONE AND THE SUCTION IS AS IF IT WERE BRAND NEW.
I've had the hose brake on this vac at both top and bottom several times. You can pinch the ears that hold the hose assembly to the wand and vac connection and get at the piece that the hose screws into. Remove the old piece, cut the hose cleanly and screw back in, then snap back together. They don't seem to have this hose anymore and since the vac also has problems with its cord assembly I'd say your best bet is a new vac once the hose can't be fixed anymore.
