Battery Though being used regularly, the battery was dead when I went to use the bike. A new battery was purchased from National Gym Supply, but after about a month of regular use, it went dead, too. It seemed like the control panel was staying on for a while after use. Do you think it may be the control panel, the alternator, or something else that could be draining the battery?

If the battery continues to fail, I would check the alternator brushes and see if they need to be replaced. Chances are they are worn and the battery is not being recharged sufficiently.

You may use regular alkaline batteries, though they won't last as long as lithiums. You should be able to buy the batteries at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store. Your local supermarket will also probably have alkalines, though they tend to charge more for such stuff than a department store.

You have a drain of power somewhere. Check all the earths that you can reach. Do you have a dodgy alarm that may have water in the connections, or a damp ignition switch. Use some WD40 to obtain better contacts.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Jes. Sounds exactly like your battery is going dead. Just to make sure, take the battery out of your bike and take it to an automotive parts store. Have them test the battery. They'll usually do this free of charge. If your battery is over two years old, it's probably bad.

Now, if you purchase a new battery, get the highest CCA (cold cranking amps) battery you can get. Also, consider the purchase of a Battery Tender or a Smart Charger that will connect directly to your battery via a short pigtail. Do not use a regular automotive battery charger. Put the pigtail on your battery and when you get of the bike, plug the charger to the battery. This will increase your battery life tremendously.

That component is a capacitor and not a battery, The battery is locate on the back portion of the bike frame, tilt the bike to its side you'll notice a plate remove the 4 screws flip the plate over. On that plate is the battery it has 2 leads red ( + ) and black ( - ) leave them on until you purchase the new battery. After receiving the Battery their is 2 screw that attach the battery to the plate and replace with new battery reverse procedure to install.

Was the on/off switch left on? if so then what happen it drain the battery in some cases depending on the age of the battery you may be abel to pedal for about 5 minutes doing this may charge the battery. If this unit has not been used for that period of time then the 6v batt has died ans needs replacing call National Gym Parts @ 1-800-496-7278 to order part# LC001.5
HERE IS THE PROCEDURE TO REPLACE THE BATT:
Tilt the bike on its side, remove mounting screws securing the battery to the bracket. Remove the battery just enough to access and disconnect the black (neg) wire from the (-) terminal and the red (pos) wire form the (+) terminal. Replace battery and reverse procedure when installing battery
