Cat5e jack by leviton has eight slots, but my cat5 cable only has 4 wires in it. I punched the wires down on the back four connectors. As long as I do the same on my ends, this should work right? Please help as soon as possible. Thanks, Ron

What he is saying is there is a camera out there that claims to run cameras with phone line, sounds not likely, theres a red, white, black, green, but they run from the camera to the DVR unit, it requires a rj45 wire, no way in hell its a phone line, this lines to thick.. im confused myself

Cat5 has eight wires, anything less is for telephone. Your cabe is for telephone if it has 4 wires. Either return the cable and get 8-wire cat5 or go to another store for your cat5 wire.

Sequence of wires to be punched down into thr connector

It doesn't matter if you follow the color coding (A or B) as long as you stick to the same code on the other end.

I've connected both ends of a Cat5e cable using the GigaMax 5e snap-in connectors. At each end, I used the T568B wiring standard. Then, I connected my computer to one end of my cable assembly via a 3 ft...

It doesn't matter whether you use the 568A or 568B wiring as long as you use the same at both ends. (If you use A at one end and B at the other you wind up with a crossover cable, handy for some applications but not what you need.) The easiest way to check a cable is with a cable tester, and then all you need to do is look at LEDs to see any problems. You can also use an ohmmeter to check that each wire goes the right place, but it's more work.

When using insulation displacement connectors, be sure you're using a punch-down tool to seat the wires in the appropriate slots. You can use the plastic tool often supplied with these connectors, or you can get a better quality spring-loaded one at reasonable cost. Don't rely on the plastic "stuffer cap" since it sometimes doesn't push the wire down fully into the metal contacts. I often find a wire that looks seated, but isn't, is what is causing the trouble. Also, especially if the lighting's not good, it's easy to mix up wires. Punching to the 568A code at one end and B at the other is not a hard mistake to make.

How do i terminate a panuit data jack 568A configuration

I haven't used Panduit specifically, but on almost every jack (leviton, on Q, ortronics) it actually shows the color codes on the side or bottom of the jack. They are usually marked for both A and B, so make sure you go by the color code marked A. Strip your cat 5, use an impact tool to punch the colored wires into the corresponding slots on the jack.

Hello I need to hardwire a tripplite n001-010-bl catse cable to a belkin cat5e keystone jack bel-r6d024-ab5e I do not know the correct wiring configuration to do this. Please advise?

The wiring is done as if you are building your own CAT5e wire. See the following URL: http://www.beginnercode.com/2006/11/09/connecting-network-cable-ends/ . There are other sites. As long as both ends are the same the cable will work (unless you want a crossover connection).

For a PDF version see: http://www.n-tron.com/pdf/cat5ecableschemes.pdf .

I hope this helps.

(Keystone jacks for ethernet come in two types: plug in RJ-45 and punch down the individual wires with the tool. All of the punch down jacks came with a diagram, had the wire arrangement indicated on the unit, and a cheap plastic punch down tool.)

There is 4 pair cat5E caple with one pair defective, how can u trace the defective wires. Are you capable of putting connectors on a faulty cate5E cable, having 2 wires defective out of the 8.

To use 8 wires cable for 100BaseTX connection only four wires are used, pin 1,2,3 and 6. You can find defective wires by using wirescope which can detect which wire has problems. If these two wires are not one of these I had mentioned according to standards 568A or B (it depends of the rest of the network) then you can use it if not then take care wher to put these bad wires but not on pins 1,2,3 or 6. Take care to document this. The best solution is to replace this bad cable with good one and do everything according to standard procedure.

Dont know how to hook up cat5e cable to a leviton cat5e jack

Those two jacks are telephone jacks (RJ-11) not ethernet (RJ-45). The jack marked telephone is for a phone, and the jack with a rectangle symbol is for the telephone line into the wall.

You need to buy an ethernet PCI card - without one you can not use a cat5e line (which has an RJ45 connection).
