Newbie here. U was trying to tune my trc 447 swr but am having more than 3 to 1 regardless. I have checked the antenna system and its fine. Can anybody help me. Thanks

What kind of antenna do you have ? If it a fiberglass whip you may or may not have a tuning rod that may be in the tip of the antenna. If you have a metal antenna then you should be able to adjust it . First, get an external SWR meter and attach it to your radio with a 12" section of jumper coax from the radio to the transmitter side of the meter then your antenna coax goes to the other connector. Now loosen the tuning rod using the alan wrench and set screws on the antenna. Next , place the whip or rod to the bottom and bring it 1/4 " then key you radio and check your swr on channel 1/40/and 19. Write down the numbers you get and then readjust and recheck it. Always writing down the results until you are at least a 1.5:1.

Eton e5 sw shot

The SW FET preamp transistor, Q1, on the underside of the circuit board blows if a static electric discharge hits the whip antenna. In my case, a cat rubbing against me & the radio on a very dry winter day did it in. The back & circuit board has to be removed to get at it. The micro transistor & the solder connection are very tiny, so hard to replace. The antenna jack should still work, because the preamp is only for the whip antenna's SW reception. An easier solution would be to just run a wire from the antenna jack to the whip antenna, but you would no longer have the whip's preamp benefits, or just use a longwire antenna connected to the jack for SW. Also beware plugging into the jack disables the AM ferrite antenna inside, so you might not want anything plugged into it for AM reception because the internal ferrite seems to perform better than any external antenna.

I am having very poor FM reception with my Bose Radio wave system. Is there an external antenna that can be attached?

The power cord is the antenna and it should be stretched out straight for best possible reception. You could experiment with re-orienting the Bose, too.

There is a threaded 75-ohm coaxial FM External connector. You could probably get a compatible FM antenna at an electronics store.

See the manual, Page 10

Antenna

OUCH! Cb antennas are cut to a specific frequency. FM antennas are also cut to a specific frequency. If you ground the antenna to a frame, you short out the antenna. BAD THING. If it is a 102" whip, you would have to cut off about 2/3's of the whip to work. If there is a cylinder at the base of the antenna You would only need about 7' of the whip sticking out for it to work right. Inside the cylinder there is a coil that would make up for the missing length of a 102" whip. I would suggest finding an old CB with FM built in like one of the old SEARS CB/FM receivers.
They had the electronics built in to compensate for the varience in the old sets.

FM Radio

The RDS (Radio Data System) FM radio is built-in and offers instant and easy access to FM radio channels in your phone. A handsfree or portable speaker set must be attached to the phone, as the wire works as an antenna for the radio. You can then choose to listen to the radio via the handsfree or the portable speakers, or through the speakers in the phone.
