Emergency calls only

I have been using this cell phone for about a month now - no problems.  Yesterday, I noticed I cannot receive or make any phone calls.  It says "Emergency calls only."  My bill is paid/account is still open (my wife's cell works fine), I just cannot make or receive any calls!  All the functions on the phone are fine too.  Any thoughts?

My phone just started doing the same thing this evening. I get an icon showing full reception, and I have made sure that my phone did not spontaneously enter the "Locked" mode.

I have had the problem since I've had the phone, have to reboot. Not a good thing since inmy business I depend on the phone working (MD).

  • Anonymous Dec 13, 2007

same problem here, and removing the battery for a few minutes is not an acceptable fix when you are dependent on you phone for business, and in my case it happens everyday!

My phone is less than 2 months old and this just started happening out of the blue today. When i take the battery out and put it back in nothing happens. What do i do?

MY PHONE WILL NOT TAKE OR MAKE CALLS IT SAYS "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY" WHY IS THAT AND HOW CAN I FIX IT?

  • skoobah Dec 06, 2008

I hate this phone. The A707 is defective. I've read countless reviews of people with this problem. I'm on my second phone but it is worse than the first one that I sent back for the same reason! The only thing this phone is good for is a paperweight. AT&T should do something about this. When you call them up thought they act like they don't know what you're talking about even though they stopped selling this phone for obvious reasons. I'll have 7 bars and it still won't let me call. I just keep getting "emergency calls only" message. I tried removing the battery and the SIM, which used to work but now it's useless. I can't believe this phone is incapable of doing the main thing that it was made for, to make calls!

I work at a hospital, and our shop is in the basement. I only seem to get this message there, even though I 'm getting 4 or 5 bars. If I walk outside, the message goes away. It acts like a signal problem regardless of what the bars are showing.

I've received the same error on a couple of occasions. Most times the problem has been fixed just turning off and then back on. If not, turn off, remove the battery for one or two minutes then replace and turn back on.

  • dwimer17 Oct 25, 2010

Net 10 phone has been working fine. Had it since May (2010), then yesterday (Oct 23) started showing 'emergency only' and I checked online. found something that said to remove the battery briefly, then put it back in and it should work. Thank you, thank you, thank you--it does!! (I have plenty of minutes and days so I couldn't understand this...now I do and know what's necessary if it happens again.)

This is a "Flaw" in the phone design. It has nothing to do with the Sim Card. Simply rebooting the phone fixes the problem, but it will keep coming back. Go to ATT and demand a new phone make and model because they sold you a "defective phone". Since it is a defect issue, ATT must accept the phone for replacement, especially since it is a "Known Defect".

If ATT gives you problems, ask for the manager or supervisor. If they still give you a problem, then that should tell you a lot about ATT service, and it would probably then be wise to change service all together.

GOOD LUCK!

You need a new sim card. If thats what it keeps doing. Hopefully when you got the 707 they gave you a new sim card. Make sure you get a 3g ATT simcard. This is a UMTS capable phone and only really likes to run on that card.

If you shut your phone off, it takes a second to find the towers, make sure your running that chip.

Go to an ATT corporate store and ask them for one, if your chip says cingular, 32K, 64K is white or white and red, get a new sim.

Thank you. I just had this problem *in my house* so I knew I should have service. Took out the turned it off, took out battery, took out sim card, ate swiss cheese (thanks for that suggestion), and put it back together. It worked! For now.

There's no solution! Nothing has worked for this stupid phone! Got to the people you got the phone from, slap them and demand for your money back.

I was given a second phone by Radio Shack. Now having same problem. I seriously need my phone so I ut it away as a backup and went back to my Sony Ericsson phone. Radio Shack won't help me again so this is my solution until I can afford an iPhone or wait two years for my next opportunity to get a "free" phone.

I've had the same thing happen a couple of times. Shut the phone off. Turn it back on. This always solved the problem for me. It needs a reboot.

I've been having problems with my phone too, so I said to them, "Look here. My friend from the innernets done told me that I should change company if you don't fix this here phone of mine. I can't do nothin' but make emergency calls."

They said, "Sir, that's not a cell phone. It's a banana that you painted black. And this is a private funeral, so please leave."

Problem, emergency screen accidentally turned on, won't go off, can't call out or receive calls

When you say "Emergency Screen", do you mean the dialer that you can access when your phone is behind the lockscreen? In that case, press the back button to exit. If you're restarting your device and are only able to make emergency calls, your SIM/RUIM card may be dislodged. Power down your device, remove it, and re-insert it before powering on again.

Emergency Only

ensure that your phone is not locked or you have no restrictions to your phone for outgoing or incoming phone calls. Reset your phone. Remove battery. Wait for five minutes then power on phone. Last resort. Hard reset your phone.

I bought the samsng sync A707 on ebay and everything works except can't make or receive calls. says Emergency calls only

If the phone is saying emergency calls only it is because you need a registered sim card from a cell provider. So you just have to go and have the phone activated at AT&T or whom ever you are going to use as your carrier.
