Our HP DesignJet 500 will not print.

Our designjet will not print any photos or images at this point. It often reades error 71:06 out of memory and wont' do anything. However, now it will not even respond when trying to print a job. Our technology people will not support this printer and they refuse to fix it. However, all these changes in the printer occurred when they switched our server one weekend. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

If they changed the server queue, or possibly did not even reinstall the printer queue on the new server, all is not lost.

First try connecting to the printer directly using USB or parallel if that's an option. If you can set it up as a local printer and that works, at least you know the printer is fine.

If you can print a diagnostic page with all of the specs of the printer, you can find the IP address and print directly to the printer, bypassing the server print queue. You can also find it in the Setup, IO Setup section of the printer's control panel.

To create an IP print connection, add a new printer, choose local printer, then choose "create a new port" of type "Standard TCP/IP port". Then enter your printer's IP and point to the driver as before, and you should be able to go direct.

71:06 error code

hello,

Description:
Out of Memory problem. This Error Code only appears in HP DesignJets 800 Series, or in the HP DesignJet 500 Series with an
HP-GL/2 card installed, when processing either a PostScript or HPGL/2 file.
Corrective Action: Try the following:
Check the amount of RAM in the Printer using the Front Panel
(use the Printer Information utility aPage 4-27). If necessary, install more memory into the Formatter.
If the problem continues, try processing the file in the PC instead of the Printer (select Avoid out of memory in Advanced options in the Driver).

hope this helps
