If you can manually turn on the TV and manually adjust the sound, then the remote is your problem. Get a new remote.

remove batteries from remote control and adjust volume to desired level. If the volume stays the same then there is a problem with the remote. If the volume lowers again then the problem is with the TV. the volume button on the TV or on the remote may be malfunctioning. Hopefully it will be on the remote. If it is the remote, take it apart and clean it with damp cloth. after allowing it to dry, re-assemble and try it out.

Need more info to assist you with the issue. Does the tv work except the volume turns down by itself even with the batteries removed from the remote? If so its either the Tact switch for the vol down has an issue or the main board has an issue. If the remote wont work the tv properly either or not at all too then i would say the main board is causing both conditions. If you require further assistance please let me know.

You can verify that the remote is working. Get a digital camera with a LCD display.
Aim the remote at the camera lens and press the volume and channel buttons. If you do not see
a flash through the camera the remote is bad or the batteries are dead.
If you know someone with any samsung hdtv remote, you can borrow it and try the volume/channel
to see if the tv remote receiver is good.

I lived with it for about six weeks, then took the back off the TV. Just now it seems to be fixed, but I don't know if it will last.

I disconnected the wire leading to the channel up/down, volume up/down and source board, turned on the tv, turned it back off, reconnected the cable, and everything seems fine now.
