PS3 freezes but sound still works

I first noticed this while playing Eternal Sonata and just assumed it was a game issue. I would boot up and play for about 5 minutes and in the middle of a fight or even just walking around, the screen would freeze even though the sound was still going in the background. The controller also stopped responding. I'd have to turn it off with the powerbutton in the front of the box.

But then yesterday I was watching a movie (DVD) and the same thing happened, the movie kept playing by sound, but the screen was frozen.

Btw, after I power it off and on again, it never happens again. It's always within 5-10 minutes of turning on after not having played for a full day.

When it happens, give it some time, like 5-10 min. the ps3 is most likely accessing the hard drive, and if it is, shutting down in the middle of it could currupt your hdd. if it doesnt work, even after 10 min, call sony tech support, but if it works fine afterwords, i dont see why it would be neccessary. unless it gets worse, i think you should just turn it on, turn it off after a few min, then back on, and then play.

Hello tanoeluc23

Whenever a PS2 game is run in backward compatibility mode, there's always a chance of a problem arising.

There were/are problems with this series of games running on the PS3. You'll have to wait until either Sony or the games publisher release an update to rectify the situation.

Plays game but freezes on the cinematics

Corrupt game data.

You need to backup your saves and then restore the PS3 to factory default.

I'm assuming you know how to do this or can figure it out yourself. You sound like a capable gamer.

Let me know if you get stuck or have any other questions.

PS3 Randomly Reboots while playing Rainbow Six Vegas

Sounds like you've got a data issue related to the hard drive.

You should use the Restore to Factory Settings option under SYSTEM.

This should address the problem.

Also does the machine feel hot or does it sound loud?

Ps3 keeps freezing on games only

Try using a can of air to blow out the fan area. Even though its well ventilated it may be full of dust. It sounds like an overheating issue. Also look into aftermarket fan/cooling solutions, that dont plug directly into the PS3 and have there own outlet power plug.

I have issues with the station loading Blue ray and most of my games..I noticed this after playing Fallout 3 and started having freezing issues and other issues while playing this game...

I read about trying a can of air to clean the station, and I also removed alot of trailers and demos that I don't use any more and 20 min later and a couple of different games, so far so good.
Thanx..
