No drainage, Sound in Spin/Rinse Cycle

The washer does not drain. Instead, there is a clicking sound when the machine is turned on in the Spin/Rinse cycle. It still has lots of water in it because the water will not drain. The lid locks when closed during the cycle and I must rotate the cycle to Off position to unlock the lid. It agitates just fine. Why won't the machine spin or drain?

You may have a broken pump belt, or belt may have fell off pump pulley. Another possibility is that you have a bad clog before the pump keeping water from draining. Your machine will agitate because this is a separate belt. Good Luck Friend.

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.

SOURCE: Washer will not Spin during SPIN CYCLES

Check the lid switch. Through out time the lid switch housing can come apart from years of heat and cold. When I checked mine, I found the glue deterriated and the housing came apart. What I did to fix it is I zipped tied the housing together and did a functional check and it worked.

SOURCE: No Spin No Drain

Lid switch is most likely the problem, if lid switch is visible under lid on right side then this is older design and common problem switch.
if you have console frame covers on front sides, snap off from top, a screw is at bottom front corners of console, remove and pull console forward and fold back. If lid swich is hidden then you will see it at left on top of cabinet with console folded back. a 5/16 screw holds a green ground wire to cab. remove and switch will unclip with lid up. If lid switch was visible under lid then you need to remove 2 brass clips holding cabinet on top of base to back, pry with screwdriver to unclip. undo harness connection on cabinet top, this is your lid switch connection. sw body is held by 2 phillips screws, harness tube held by clips on underside of cabinet top. ground wire with 5/16 screw present at sw body. New versions of this switch have metel shield attached.

SOURCE: washer stops during rinse cycle

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Washer Kenmore 80series Doesn't want to drain the water after it's RINSE CYCLE. No sound from motor or pump. It just stops. does it drain after the wash cycle? if it does, then I don't think it's the...

Solution for Washer Kenmore 80series stopped on SPIN CYCLE and no Drainage or motor running.

** What was stopping it to drain was the defective limit switch which when the cover lid is closed starts the spin and the drain at the same time. I jumped the wires to get my close washed and I have to replace it for security. I had to unscrew the front control panel and remove the casing that wraps around the washer to have access for the limit switch wireing harness. I cut the two black wires and joined them with a wirenut so that I was able to continue my wash and draining the water leftt over.
