Usual problem is a paper sensor (most likely a small lever) has gotten stuck.. find the paper sensors and reposition them
Try this...
Duh!! The person asks "how do you fix the paper jam error message when there is no paper jam". This has happened to me twice and nowhere can I get any help for this obvious piece of **** printer. I had to return the first one because of the same message and now my second one won't work with the same message appearing and , believe me, there is NO paper jammed in the printer!!
Solution
Follow these steps to resolve the problem.
Step one: Remove any loose paper
Remove any loose paper from the main input tray and the automatic document feeder (ADF) to avoid making the jam worse.
Step two: Clear the jam from the back of the All-in-One
Step three: Clean the rollers
While the rear door is removed from the product, clean the paper rollers.
Step four: Clear the jam from the automatic document feeder (ADF)
Use the following instructions to clear the jam from the ADF.
Step five: Reload paper and test the All-in-One
After removing the jammed paper, make sure the product is functioning correctly.
Cause
SOURCE: HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer message "Paper jam"
An error code showing that there is paper jam alert, but no paper is in anywhere in the machine except in the tray.....I have checked all areas, taken the back carriage of the unit, opened the top and opened the machine. removed the paper tray, everything, but there is no paper stuck in the unit

mine HP was acting the same way after a jam. I contacted hp and they told me it was a hardware issue and that I would need to purchase a new printer. I found a KB on thier site for this issue. It involved removing both ink carts and then reseting the printer with the ink carts out. it seemed to work.

I have the same problem. Answer? PUt the piece of junk in the trash and never, never buy brother products again. I called Brother and they had a refurb for more than what it cost me originally!!!!!

Ok, the paper jam could be due to one of the following:
First try a hard reset - unplug printer from power source, wait a minute and replug. If it still does not work, uninstall the driver, reboot PC and reinstall (or download latest version from lexmark.com.
If there is no bit of paper or
debris stuck in the rollers, it would indicate something more serious,
and in need of servicing. If your machine is under warranty, I suggest
you take it back to the shop and get it replaced.
If your warranty
has run out, then you'll either have to get it serviced or buy a new
printer (whichever works out cheaper for you)
Hope that helps!
Please check rear door area for paper, can you use manual feed slot? Power off machine with all jams removed and paper loaded, then power on, can you tell us exact error message/lights that are shown in this state?
