2001 Hyundai Accent. Heating and stalls

2001 Hyundai Accent. Problem started the day after we replaced belt. Car will run fine for about 30 miles. Temperature gauge is normal. All of a sudden gauge hits top and car stalls. Makes clunking noise. Has go get way cool to run properly again. No water in radiator but no visible leaks either. We have already replace thermostat.

hotchevy1965, we didn't replace the water pump, we replaced the thermostat.
chuckie12_87, there is no smoke, no water in oil or oil in water.

YOUR WATER PUMP GASKET IS LEAKING.ITS NOT SEALING.IF YOU DID USE GASKET SEALANT ON WATER PUMP GASKET IT WILL LEAK.ALSO YOU NEED TO PUT HALF ANTIFREEZE AND HALF WATER.BECAUSE WATER WILL BOIL OR EVAPORATE.WHEN ENGINE TEMP GET ABOVE 212.YOU NEED ANTIFREEZE TO RAISE THE BOILING POINT.SO YOUR ENGINE WILL NOT OVER HEAT.EVERY TIME ENGINE OVER HEAT IT DAMAGING THE TRANSMISSION.I WOULD FIX IT.QUICKLY.CHECK TO SEE IF WATER PUMP LEAKING.YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE GASKET AGAIN.

If the water tends to keep going down then there has to be a leak somewhere. Try also looking at the hose coming from the overflow tank and see if the hose might be kinked. You might also be blowing antifreeze out the tailpipe. Take a look and if there is bluish white smoke then you have confirmed that theory,

My 1999 Hyundai Accent stalls. After few minutes of driving, the car stops and after 15 minutes it re-starts. What is the problem?

When your driving say about 20 or 30 minutes, the car, no matter what, just dies. If the engine cools down, it will start and run just fine, for about another 20 or so minutes, and same thing? Change the coil. its bad, it over heats, and pow. when it cools, works great. Had that happen to me. hope this is the problem

My 2002 hyundai accent 1.5 liters will stall at a stop sign or red light. it won't restart for at least 15 minutes, then die out about a half mile down the road (on a bad day). the car sounds fine when...

This sounds like an O2 sensor problem. These sensors regulate the oxygen into the engine, when they go bad, the engine can't breathe and therefore the car will not function right. If there is no oxygen, internal combustion can be a difficult task for a car. I would see if you could get those sensors replaced and you might be back in business. Good luck.

TIMING CHAIN CHANGE

hyundai recommends replacing the belt every 60,000 miles or 48 mos and this is an "interference" engine which means if the belt breaks, it will cause internal engine damage. happy holidays

I have a Hyundai Accent (1999 with 70k miles. I replaced timing belt and water pump at 65 k miles and in general car was running fine except that the check engine light was on. I was driving on highway...

Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.

Accent 2001 won't start after driving for only 100km

you may want to see if your catalitic converter is clogged up. I had a car that had that problem, when you drove too much it would die and wouldn't start for a long time after that. I had the converter replaced and now it drives just fine. May not be the same problem but it could be. and most muffler shops will check for a small fee if not for free.
