This can typically be caused by two items, low refrigeration gas or insufficient air flow. I would shut the unit down, unplug it and let it set for a day to thaw out. Clean all the air passages and replace the filter. Plug it in and turn it back on. If it continues to freeze you probably have either low refrigeration gas or a fan that is not opperating properly.

Dehumidifier

when ice forms on an evaporator unit (coil) there is an indication of internal problems with the unit. IT may occur if there is insufficient air flow ( dirty or fan speed to low ) but when this happens the thermostat just orders more gas through the tx valve and so more ice is formed then the thermostat reads it as too cold and so cuts the gas flow back by controlling the operation of the tx valve
Water from a dehumidifier will depend on the atmosphere humidity so the lower the humidity reading the less water collected
However I suggest that you have a technician check it out as the compressor start/run capacitor may be faulty and that is why the compressor is not getting hot as it may not be running properly

My dehumidifier ddr557he will no longer defrost. How do I repair this?

well there are three things i know of that can cause this :
1st your filters are dirty needs cleaning .
2nd your humistat is set too low , unit runs too long with out a cool down period , 70% rh is a "normal" setting
3rd in older units that might be getting up there in years its possible that some of the cooling gas has leaked out and this causes freeze ups

Frigidaire 70 pint dehumidifier model # LAd704TDK filter looks to have frozen or clogged, how to remove filter to check for problems?

Turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Remove the water collection bucket and set aside. At the top of the bucket holder, just behind the louvers you should see a plastic pull tab, which is part of the filter frame. If you have never removed the filter before, there may be a piece of plastic tape on the filter frame. It was put there for shipping. Remove and discard it. Pull straight down on the plastic tab and remove the filter. It can be cleaned by vacuuming it or if it's really dirty, wash it in with warm water and mild dish washing liquid. Rinse thoroughly, shake off access water and allow to completely dry, before reinstalling it. Never operate the unit without the filter in place, as doing so could cause damage to the unit. The filter should be removed and cleaned once every two weeks.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

It keeps getting ice build up on the outside, on top, in the front.

Several things can cause this problem. So, I'll start with the most common first

1. Dirty or clogged air intake filter. Remove and clean the filter per the Owner's Manual directions.

2. No enough clear air space surrounding the unit. Maintain a minimum of 12" around the entire unit.

3, The ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 & 60 degrees F. This usually happens in basement applications. The air temp at the floor is just to cool for the unit to operate as it should. Place the unit up on a sturdy table or counter top, that's strong enough to handle the weight, with a full bucket of water.

The more critical things would be - Low refrigerant gas in the cooling system and the compressor needs to be recharged. Or the Defrost Cycle Sensor has failed and the unit has frozen up.

In any of the above situations, you should turn the unit OFF and unplug it from the wall and allow it to thoroughly thaw, before attempting any maintenance I described above. You should put some old towels under the unit to absorb the water as the unit thaws out.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Dehumidifier AD75USTO Whirlpool. Taking in air but not taking out moisture.Seems to be frozen up inside, etc. Can I get a manuel?

Sorry, but your Model # doesn't match any Whirlpool Appliance in my data base. However, another company may have bought the rights to use the Whirlpool name on house brand that they sell. But, lets get to a solution to your immediate problem.

First turn OFF the MASTER ON/OFF Switch and unplug the unit from the wall outlet and allow the unit to completely thaw, before removing and cleaning the air filter. As, I suspect, the filter is dirty and may be clogged. Historically, this is one of the things that can cause a dehumidifier to struggle and not be able to keep up.

After you remove and clean the filter, remove the water collection bucket and look for the drain tube or hole that drains the water into the collection bucket. Using an 18" long plastic Zip Tie, that will fit into the drain hole or tube. Carefully insert the tube into the drain hole. Continue to push it in and you'll reach a bend in the tubing. Carefully push it past this bend, as far as you can. Then, while rotating the Zip Tie, pull it back out slowly. Be prepared for some water to follow. One word of caution - DO NOT use a wire coat hanger to clear the drain tube.

Reassemble everything and you should be good to go. If however, the unit freezes up again, the compressor may be low of refrigerant gas and it will need to be recharged.

Hope this helps you continue to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier2_bing.gif.

The unit has started sweating cold water droplets on its top and in the last couple of days it has actually frozen.

Several possible problems. Filter clean? As strange as this may sound you may have lost a little refrigerant. If problem persists after filter is cleaned, then a Tech needs to look at it.
