Panasonic VHS-C camcorder: how to transfer video to my PC?

Subject title says it all...

I have a supplied PC connection 9-pin cable that came with the camcorder.

However, the camera manual provides instructions on how to transfer live or still images only - and not recorded video.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions how I could get my recorded video off the camcorder onto my PC (windows XP or VISTA).

Thanks for any and all help.

    This might help:

TRANSFERRING VIDEO FROM CAMCORDER TO COMPUTER

Camcorders usually come with connecting cables. Older camcorders have yellow, red and white RCA cables that connect the camcorder to your TV or a computer (note: the panasonic VHS-C PV-L750D-K connector cables are yellow and white only, called an "Audio/Video Cable")

FOR CAMCORDERS WITH RCA CONNECTORS & PROPRIETARY CONNECTIONS

If you are using a camcorder with RCA connectors then your computer must have a Video Capture Card or some kind of video capturing device connected to your computer. A webcam is not a video capture device.

RCA connectors/cables come in 3 colors, yellow for video, red and white for left and right audio channel (note: the panasonic VHS-C PV-L750D-K Audio/Video connector cables are yellow and white only)

Make the connections on the camera and connect the RCA to the outlets of your Video Capture Card/device. Color codes on the RCA and the outlets are important. The yellow RCA is carries the video signal and should be connected to the "video in" outlet of the Video Capture Card/Device. The red and white RCA cables are the left and right audio signal. These can be swapped without any problems (note: the panasonic VHS-C PV-L750D-K connector cables are yellow and white only)

Once the connections are done you are now ready to capture the video on your computer. Video Capture Cards/Devices come with programs that allow you to capture video to a location in your computer. Captured video files are most of the times in .avi or .mpg format stored in your computer.

    CAPTURE SETTINGS

Leave everything on default and you should be OK. Once you get the hang of it you can start tweaking some settings. Here are common settings that you might want to experiment:

Resolution - this refers to the number of pixel. A 320x240 resolution means 320 pixels horizontally and 240 pixels vertically. 320x240 is the advised capturing resolution for youtube videos. 352x240 is ideal for VCD. 640x480 is the ideal resolution for full screen computer videos. 720x480 is the ideal resolution for DVD.

Data Rate - refers to the amount of data allocated for capturing video(and audio). 300 kbps (kilobit per second) in mpeg-1 format is recommended for youtube. 1152 kbps in mpeg-1 format is for VCD. 2,000 kbps in mpeg-2 format is recommended for DVD. These numbers are here as reference. You will get a low quality DVD if you recorded in 300 kbps mpeg-1. Commercial DVD data rate is 4500 kbps in mpeg-2 format. Data rate also determines the file size of the captured video. The lower the data rate the smaller the file.

Compression - MPEG 4 is for ipod videos, MPEG 3 is for music, MPEG 2 is for DVD, MPEG 1 is for VCD. DV compression is the highest quality compression available to standard desktop/laptop computers. If you plan to capture a video for editing I suggest you capture in DV compression .avi file.

    MAKING DVDs

You make DVDs by burning the DVDs in a DVD burner drive. DVD+R and DVD-R are now interchangeable types. Most commercial DVD players can handle both types. Open your DVD burning program. Most of the time DVD burners come with programs to make DVDs. Just follow the instructions on how to make DVDs and you're done!

You will need to purchase Pinnacle Video Transfer.

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/images/redesi...

It's expensive, but it's the most convenient way to transfer analog video (via a USB flash stick or external hard drive) to view and edit on a PC.

I have used this device with my Panasonic PV-L750D-K Palmcorder (camcorder) with success.

A few things to keep in mind:

a.) The Pinnacle Video Transfer converts the the video into MPEG 4 format - so you will need the Apple QuickTime viewer to view the videos on your PC.

b.) You will need to purchase a USB flash stick, a min of 4GB (I use an 8 GB flash stick), unless you have one already.

c.) Your flash stick should be formatted to FAT 32

d.) You will need the Audio/Video cable that came with your Panasonic camcoder (the supplied A/V cables that come with the Pinnacle Video Transfer are incompatible with the Panasonic camcorder).

e.) You will need to update the Pinnacle Video Transfer with the latest firmware update (available from the Pinnacle Support Site) before you hook everything up.

The rest is a no brainer. Just follow the instructions in the booklet, or view the tutorial videos on the pinnacle web site for more info.

Please get yourself a capture card. That will have a video socket that is compatible with your VHS-C camera and PC.

SOURCE: Transfering from camcorder to VHS tape

1. Using the A/V Cables provided, connect the proper end of the cable to the Camcorder where labeled A/V Jack 2. Connect the other end to the A/V inputs on the VCR. (Location of A/V jacks may vary by model) 3. You must activate the video mode on your VCR. Look for a button labeled: TV/VIDEO, INPUT, SOURCE, LINE IN, LINE 1, etc. (For more information, consult the User Manual for the VCR.) 4. I do not transfer video by usb dv cable

That's correct, USB cannot transfer video from the tape.
You must use a firewire cable the suits the camera and computer. Usually a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable. Check your equipment for the correct port.
The camera will be 4 pin. Laptops are usually 4 pin. Desktops are 6 pin with later models having 9 pin as well.

To do the transfer you will require an Analouge to Digital Converter box.
You connect the camera to the A/D Converter with analogue cables (RED, WHITE AND YELLOW RCA connectors) then use a firewire cable to connect the A/D Converter to the computer.

Cant transfer videos to pc

Option 1:

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camera to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

(Applicable for Vista Operating System Only.)

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this Link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Option 2:

(Applicable for Windows XP Operating System only):

If you are using a Windows XP Operating System then you have to install the USB Streaming Driver in the Computer from the supplied Software disk with the Computer.

Check this Link for the instruction to transfer video to a Computer using USB Streaming.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C222820

If you do not have the supplied Software disk then I suggest that you use the i.LINK cable to transfer the video.

Option 3:

If you are using an i.LINK cable then:

The Camcorder will flash the DV IN message as soon as the i.LINK/Firewire cable is connected to the Camcorder.

If you are getting the DV IN message then it indicates that the Camcorder recognize the connection.

If you are not getting the DV IN message as soon as the i.LINK cable is connected with the Camcorder then the issue may be with either the Camcorder or with the i.LINK cable.

Try resetting the Camcorder or try with different i.LINK cable. Locate the RESET button behind the LCD screen of the Camcorder. (You will be able to locate the RESET button by opening the LCD Screen. The Camcorder should be switched ON when you reset the unit. Press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object).

NOTE: Resetting the Camcorder will reset the settings of the Camcorder to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camcorder.

If the issue still persists after resetting the Camcorder and with different i.LINK cable then your Camcorder requires service to resolve the issue.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to connect Panasonic GS-36 to PC

Your camera has a 4 pin port on the side of it next to the USB port.....depending on the type of firewire connector on your computer will determine what type of 1394 cable you will need to connect the PC to the camera. Your computer could have a 6 pin or 9 pin connector (I'm betting it has a 6 pin). Get a 1394 cable that is 4 pin to 6 pin and you should be able to connect the two together....that's how I did it with my tower PC and to my laptop with a firewire PCMCIA card.

Can I connect my VHS-C Palmcorder® Camcorder to my computer?

No. Since VHS-C Palmcorder Camcorders feature only analog outputs, it is not possible to connect the camcorder directly to a PC unless your computer video card is equipped with analog inputs. The only way to transfer images from the camcorder to a PC is by using an external device capable of analog/digital signal conversion.
