I have a two year old whirlpool side by side refrig and it is freezing things in the refer side no matter what setting it is on. Can you tell me where to start to troubleshooting?

Hi,

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.

Good luck in solving the problem......

Food freezes in the refrigator

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

I have a 3 yr old side-by-side. The freezer is freezing ice cream solid even though it's turned all the way down. Food in the bottom two drawers on the refigerator side are freezing. Water has dripped...

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat. (cold Control). It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually and will cause the fridge to get colder and freeze food. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge (it is the control that has wires, the other is the damper). Locate the thermostat and replace it. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!! Mike

We have a whirlpool freezer on top but the bottom of the fridge is freezing

Set both freezer and fresh food controls to their mid position.
If after 24 hours the temp is still too cold replace the thermostat aka cold control.

Refridgerator side of my refridgerator keeps freezing my food

The problem may be low gas or it may be the thermostat is set too low.  First, look at the possibility that you may have the food partly blocking an air channel which is where the very cold air is coming from..  Fridge side should read about 40 F after the door is closed for about an hour.  If colder, adjust.
