That means you don't have a program installed that can view the files. Google for your file formats... bmp, jpg, mkv, mpg, flv, etc. to find the required software and then install it. That should solve the problem.

SOURCE: how do i clean my d:data without getting rid of things i need?

in most computers d: is the cd drive. so you might just be seeing that. unless the hard drive is partitioned, then during installation you need to delete that partition to make it one drive and then when you format it should be totally empty

Dvd player says disc unsupported Its a funai dvd player. It's a 3disc box set 2discs play and the 3rd does not why?

It is likely that the 3rd disk is a data disk and your machine does not support data disks. Try it in your computer and you should be able to access it.

Can you please give me step by step insturctions on how to totally wipe my hardrive on my dell latitude 600? Then I will refoat it back to its orignal settings. thank You

Unless you're donating the drive, there's no need to do anything before re-installing the OS. When Windows asks where you want to install the OS to, you'll see an option for formatting the drive first.
If you are donating it and are worried about someone recovering the data (after formatting and re-installing, it's not something the average tech can do) I'd recommend booting the laptop off CD/USB drive with this image (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) and running one of the Hard Disk Wiping utilities. Mind you, some of the very thorough ones (military-grade) can take DAYS.

Custom made had a trogen and virus don't seem to have now according to latest scans, but had 90% of my pics wiped out plus some ms files. was told to restore with the restore disc not available. Can't...

It may be best to kill the Virus or Malware first on another PC by using a USB Hard Drive container or connecting directly to the Bench PC. The PC you use to do this needs to be on a PC that is not connected to the Internet and can take on a Virus... a Bench PC made for repairs. If your Hard Drive is that infected you could create more damage the longer it is running. Your Pics could be just deleted and mybe able to be Restored from the Recycle Bid or using a Data Recovery Tool... again from another Machine. if you do it youself... start with a new HD and reinstall fresh with all updates and virus protection. Add old drive and clean. See if the data is present on the old drive after clean.

NEF Image will not open - Macintosh

RAW NEF images from Nikon cameras are proprietary formatted raw data directly from the cameras's sensor. If the images are improperly transferred to the computer they will not be able to be opened and will give an "Unsupported File Format" warning. Macintosh OS X has an "Image Capture" application (found in: Hard Drive/Applications/)that can be used to transfer images. If "Image Capture" is used NEF files will be corrupted and will not be able to be read. Only Nikon View, or manually dragging images from the mounted card, should be used to transfer NEF's. To disable "Image Capture": Double-click to open the hard drive and then the "Applications" folder Double-click "Image Capture" From the "Image Capture" menu choose "Preferences..." In the "When a camera is connected" pop-up choose "No Application" Close the Preferences window and Quit Image Capture After disabling Image Capture, it will not launch when the camera is connected and you can use Nikon View to properly transfer NEF images.
