Printer selects tray1 as default tray. how can this be changed?

Tray 1 by default is set to any size, any type, which means that no matter what you print, it will pull from tray 1. You can change that by setting tray 1 for a specific size and type, such as 8.5" x 11"(Letter) and Plain paper, and then going into the print driver options (Control Panel, Printers & Faxes, right click on the HP 3550 and select Properties) and under the paper input tray, change it to either tray 2 or 3.

Where is tray 1 located?

Most Lexmark printers have two input sources. The Manual Feed Tree, located at the top back of the printer across the top of the printer.

And Tray 1. Tray 1 is located under the Paper Exit Tray in the front bottom of the printer.

You lift up the paper exit tray to reach the Tray 1 to change the paper size guides. It comes set up for 8.5 X 11 (Letter Size) paper.

Check the Paper Handling Menu. The Tray 1 size and Tray 1 Type should be set to Any Size. This means that the printer should pull the paper from Tray 1 first when paper is loaded in tray 1

5 touch software sw
6 touch mode selection then use the keypad to type 037
7 touch the bit selection button use the arrow keys to select the bit you want to change setting the bit to a 1 enables the tray and 0 disables the trayrefer to the chart below to pick a tray to print faxes from you cannot set all the bits to 0 at least one of them have to set to 1.
bit 7=1 for the 1rst tray
bit 6=1 for the 2nd tray
bit 5=1 for the 3rd tray
bit 4=1 for the 4th tray
bit 2=0 for the bypass
so lets just say you want to put yellow paper in tray 1 to have all the faxes print on yellow paper. you would set bit 7 to a 1 and set bits 6,5,4,2,all to 0
