SOURCE: stuck at 288 degrees

NO PARTS REQUIRED!!! DON'T PAY FOR A SERVICE CALL!!!

After a power outage, my wife's grandmother said she could no longer set her over to 300, 400, 450, whatever..

I went over to troubleshoot.

I couldn't figure out why everything seemed functional and why I couldn't set the over to higher than 288 (and thought, that's a rather odd number)... until I realized that that 288 degrees C = 550 degrees F which is the max the oven can do.

The power outage reset the computed back to celcius instead of fahrenheit.

Save them a ton of money... cause this could have been an easy cash grab to some cook out there.

Jandy LJ400 temp. indicator reads 97 temp set at 84 heater wont fire when i raise the temp to 100 it lights. what do i look at

Bob, sounds like it is working as designed. If the temp indicates 97, of course it won't fire if you set 84 as the temp (97) is already above that. When you set 100, it is higher than 97 and the unit attempts to raise the temp those 3 degrees. If you don't think the water is already at 97, then there is a calibration problem with the temp sensor.

Roof a/c's wont come on unless you set temp to 55 degrees

Tried another thermostat? Also check that where thermostat is mounted isn't a warm zone, that is detecting higher temperatures. Put another thermostat on wall beside it to check. Another thing is to take thermostat of the wall and let it hang and try it. I've had some where warm air was blowing/sucking past hole for wiring in wall, and throwing thermostat off.

Rinnai 1004 heats to a temp 4 degrees higher than set temp, adjustment?

You can adjust the position of the room air sensor found on the back of the unit between the heater and the wall. It is a black rubber bulb with yellow wires. There is a few inches of extra wire you can extend higher to get a more accurate reading of room air. While you are back there, check for drafts that will give you false readings.
