I just installed new batteries and memory card for my Canon PowerShot A480. I'm trying to download sports videos to my computer. As soon as I hit 'download' my camera shuts off. I get a a message on my computer to make sure my camera is on. Trouble is that it shuts itself down and won't stay on.

SOURCE: Camera reading memory card error, cannot get it to work. Tried removeing the card and replacing batteries. Checked and it is not locked.

try formatting the card once on a pc and then plug it in your camera....if that does not help either, you'll have to try a different card.

SOURCE: my Canon powershot s400 camera won't read memory card

First, remove the card, and look in the slot for any bent flash card pins. If you see any, don't fret, it's possible that you can fix this yourself. See this article on how to unbend flash card pins.

But if no pent pins are seen, then the camera's clock battery has worn out, and is likely causing this problem. Unfortunately this battery is internal to the camera. But Canon will fix this for you (for the S400 only) for free, with free shipping. Please see the Canon advisory for your camera here.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

I lost the solution disk ,where can I download the Solution Disk for the Cannon A480?? Thanks, JK

You can download Canon software from
www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a480

You might want to consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

Turn on the camera. "Memory Card Error" displays.

You'd better change a new memory card that doesn't have a problem to check whether it is matter of Canon PowerShot A480,or use another well camera to check if it is error of your memory card.

I have purchase a A480 Canon digital camera, but when i try to download its software CD to my computer which is a window XP it is not functioning??what is the reasons for that???

The driver software is incompatable with a lot of computers, you may need to get a SD Card Reader which you directly insert your SD (memory) card into, instead of using a cord.
