you need to use the small round suds nozzel, this will create a fine foam, spray the foam into a basin, the use the upholstry brush to apply to the stairs or chair.
First the bag assembly and head (or hose) must be removed. The hose fits onto the motor outlet in place of the bag. You will see a small arrow on the motor end of the hose. Line the arrow up with the "bump" on the metal fan housing and turn it clockwise to snap it in place. Be sure it is fully in place, or the motor will not run. Your attachment box contains an air intake guard which goes on the front in place of the head. Remember - the motor also will not run with the fan exposed. Turn the motor on and blow any dust out of the hose before putting the spray gun on the end of the hose. To make foam, the small foam screen must be attached to the spray gun outlet.
The parts needed for upholstery cleaning should be in the attachment box. First remove the rug nozzle (or hose) , from the motor unit. Next remove the entire bag assembly - grip the lower housing and turn it counterclockwise to remove. The attachment hose can now be placed on the motor outlet. Look for a small arrow on the hose connector and line it up with the small "bump" on the metal fan housing, and turn it clockwise to install. The air intake guard is placed on the front in place of the rug head. Turn the motor on to blow dust out of the hose and fan chamber prior to placing the spray gun on the end of the hose. Be sure to put the small "suds screen" on the nozzle of the spray gun to produce foam. Place the foam onto the area to be cleaned, and massage it into the fabric with a sponge or towel. Allow it to dry thoroughly before vacuuming it out.
Hooking up the foaming device simply blows foam into the job. Here is a shortcut which I find more convenient on my G4 tools. If you have the rotary upholstery shampoo kit, you can just attach the rotary tool to your hose. Then mix your kirby suds into a household spray mist bottle. If you happen to have a mist bottle with a screen on the intake straw it will foam your suds not quite as well as the kirby device, but this way you can store the suds in the spray bottle for future quick use. kirby suds are designed to be used as foam not liquid so a foamer in the spray bottle helps the process. You do not want to soak the furniture, just apply a light mist and scrub with the air driven shampoo tool on the hose. Then allow to dry and vacuum 24 hours later.
1. Valve under the sponge (water tank) is clogged. Replacement HERE. 2. Tray is now lowered all the way down. 3. You use non-foamy solution. 4. Carpet is very dirty so foam gets broken up very fast
Hello,
The trigger on the suds gun needs to be turned (to the left, I believe) to open up the sprayer. Also, make sure that the straw is firmly inserted into the hole in the bottom of the lid part. Hope this helps,
Marci
You need the upholstery attachment (it looks like a trigger sprayer with a plastic jar attached)You MUST have the foam screen that fits on the front of the trigger, without it,you will only get solution. The trigger sprayer fits on the end of the hose. The other end of the hose fits on the blower end of the machine. You must remove the bag,and attach the hose at this end.The trigger sprayer deposits the foam, and you work the foam in with a soft cloth or brush. When dry, switch the hose to the suction side, and vacuum out the foam. There is also an adapter (about the size of a styrofoam cup) that attaches to the front of the machine to allow it to be used when using the hose on the blower (bag) side.
I have a model I got in 2001. I found that the water sprayer on the hand tool is driven by a little turbine that relies on suction from the main vacuum motor. I eventually found that the spindle inside the turbine had separated and hence the hand-tool wouldn't spray. I glued it together but that only fixed the problem until it broke again. I am going to buy another (about $23).
MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHAT BRAND OF SHAMPOO ARE YOU USING??? KIRBY IS NOTED FOR REQUIRING ONLY, KIRBY SHAMPOO. PART OF THE REASON IS THAT THEY HAVE A UNIQUE FORMULA THAT WORKS SPECIFICALLY WITH THE KIRBY.
THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE DISPENSER IS PLUGGED AND NEEDS A REAL GOOD CLEANING. ALSO, WHEN APPLYING THE FOAM TO THE CARPET, YOU NEED TO GO REALLY, REALLY SLOW.
THE NARROW BAND OF SUDS DOES INDICATE YOU MAY BE MOVING THE DISPENSER TOO FAST. GOOD LUCK.
