Hello,the problem you are could be caused by so many thing,but i will love to know if the phone does ring out if you are called,and also when yo receive calls do you hear them,if the phone does not ring,i advice you buy a new ringer because the one you have in there is definitely damaged,and if you don't hear people when they call,that means you also have problem with your ear piece which you can replace by getting a new one at a mobile phone store.
The phone could also face a jammed application problem or a virus attack,which means if it is flashsed you might have it working as supposed.

I too have this problem, I have reset the phone twice and that works to bring the volume back to the normal levels. However all my sounds on the phone are low, including the alarm. It wouldn't wake anything. Can somebody please explain how to return the volume without having to rest the phone. Thank you. J

i had the same prob. just try blowing into the headphone jack or unplugging and plugging back in the headphones into the headphone jack a couple of times. there must be some sort of problem with the headphone jack that makes the phone think that the headphones are still in or something.

You can't because you can't. It is not a speaker that is meant for music, last time i checked it was pseudo something but forgot the exact name, its not able to make audio, just ticking sounds. Its sort of like the 'beep' that happens when your computer starts, you can't make that speaker play music it just beeps..

Found your question due to having the exact problem you described. New firmware, format... loaded new music, same problem. While switching to yet another set of headphones the sound got better momentarily. The case doesn't appear loose, but squeeze right next to the lcd and lyra name and the audio was fixed. For some reason the audio was mechanical sounding and the voice was almost non-existant unless pressure was placed on the player where described. I tightened the screw in the retaining strap hole and the one under the USB connector flap and all is well for now. Good Luck!!!!
