I have big difference in WIFi speed of the sony and for instance a laptop( 5Mbs versus 15Mbs) and ping ( 40-60 vesus 19ms). Values using ookla speedtest. When browsing it is frustrating. Tries changing values in the modem ( different channels, larger DTIM, larger beacon). But all remains more or less the same.

you can connect it by data cable or wirelessly by bluetooth
once it is connected to your computer
open the program for your phone (it comes in dvd/cd with phone)
then select connect option to connect internet from your phone as GPRS or modem as you need
remember when you first time connect phone with computer it shows notification new hardware found
and installs your device as standard modem also
you can select your phone as modem in control panel also
further the same procedure to make new connection

Goto wifi settings of your Sony Ericsson X8 Android Mobile
press menu button and select "Advanced"
Disable the "Use Static IP" (please be confirmed that DHCP server runs on your router)
