check the diaphragm for debris, damage, or deformity. unthread the collar above the handle and push the tube downward. Inspect the rubber diaphragm, any damage or deformity will cause erratic behavior.

If you can't find any junk in the diaphram or throught. The best thing to do is take it to a store they can show you how to do this and they will not usually charge for more than just the part.

It sounds like your house weights need to be adjusted. When the pool cleaner is resting, it should always sit at a 45 degree angle on the bottom of the pool. If it stands up on the front side, try sliding the weight away from the cleaner head. You may need to make several small adjustments to get the balance right, but this is almost surely your problem. Check your Star Control settings to make sure that you are getting adequate pressure. If you get a blue or black reading, you are not getting adequate flow and need to increase (aim for the yellow zone). You will also want to make sure that you don't have any obstructions that are preventing movement (in the mouth of the cleaner or hose). If these are not the cause, I would make sure that you have assembled the cleaner correctly. Here is a copy of the users manual for these pool cleaners.
