Hi I have the same problem but mine has black and white specs all over the screen as well. I am sure it is the DMD board. my dlp says oct. 2003 but I have had problems since the first year. color wheel went out with in 8 months. Since I have replaced it other time as well as the lamp. the dlp has been sitting now for 1 year becasue for the 1100.00 for a main dmd board . I might as well by a plasma for 1500 from costco or for that matter our same unit is about that price at costco. we really were ripped off I wont be buying a dlp samsung or any other samsung product any time soon. good luck if had found a board chaep please let me know where thanks Darrell

It is a DLP type set and if lamp comes on but other issues, I would first remove the lamp and look at the color wheel that faces it---looking for any broken or missing segments----often but not always the wheel will produce a fan like or high pitched sound as well.

Replaced the balast, tv not longer turns on and off but now it has a kind of pulsing picture. Am I looking at a new bulb? a new color wheel ? or some other surprise that I haven't heard about?

Lamp is possible especially if the ballast was bad--it powers the lamp.
Color wheel will usually display some issues--high pitched whine or fan like noise---with the lamp removed look where it faces--color wheel is there--any broken or missing pieces and it is the problem---

The wheel is directly connected to the set---set will detect if wheel not moving or moving too slow etc and almost instantly turn the lamp OFF.

Samsung dlp hls6186w, picture has darkened, could it be the lamp or is it the colour wheel??... tv is making sounds...I thought it was the fan, the fan looks okay??? It also shuts down once and a while...

The lamp is the only thing that will cause the picture to go darker. According to the model you have the lamp part number is BP96-01472A. The noise you hear could possibly be the color wheel itself. The way to tell is when you turn off the TV the lamp stays on for about 10 seconds longer. Once the lamp shuts off if that noise goes away then it is a bad color wheel. Any noises past that would be a fan. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

No picture on my samsung 61" dlp.

The color wheel if bad enough, will cause the lamp not to light. If the lamp is truly bad, you can't usually tell by just looking at it unless of course it is broken.

I have a Samsung 50 inch DLP - I heard a pop and the picture immediately disappeared. The 3 lights were flashing on the front which according to the book said it needed a new lamp installed. I ordered it,...

Sounds like the color wheel may have also gone bad. I recently saw a 56" Samsung where the bulb and color wheel went at the same time. The color wheel could produce a crying noise while trying to spin up.

Black and white screen...

The color wheel can cause a black and white picture but not the jumpy or negative look.
Those symptoms are usually caused by the DMD assy which drives the color wheel and is somewhat expensive, most of the time you can purchase the whole Light Engine which includes the DMD assy for the same price.

Samsung 61" DLP 3 Blinking lights.

all 3 lights blinking means lamp has a fault the service manual says replace the lamp. If you need the service training manual for that model let me know and I will post the link as the training manual has excellent trouble shooting breakdowns for that model DLP

Samsung HLS4266W 43" dlp

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
