The relay is in easy view on the top of the motor, a little to the right side (passenger side). You will see two identical relays. One of them, the large battery cable goes to the intake air heater. The other relay is for your glow-plugs.

SOURCE: How do you change the glow plugs and relay in a F350 1997

Hello, here is the proceedure. Any questions please ask. Good luck. CAUTION The red-striped wires on the 1994-96 DI Turbo engine carry 115 volts DC. A severe electrical shock may be given. Do not pierce the wires.

  1. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
  2. For 1994-96 engines, remove the valve cover.
  3. Disconnect the wire connector from the glow plug.
  4. Using a 10mm deep socket, with enough clearance as to not break or bend the wiring connector, unscrew the glow plug from the manifold.
To install:
  1. Place anti-seize on the threads of the glow plug and screw it into the manifold.
  2. Tighten the glow plug to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  3. Plug the wiring connector.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
  5. For 1994-96 engines, install the valve cover.

SOURCE: Problem with cold starting Ford 7.3L Diesel at > freezing temps

most likely the relay. its located to the left of the fuel filter( looking at the motor from the front). my experience is that they only last about 50,000 miles. the part costs about $20 at an navistar dealer. remove the cowl over the filter, disconnect the batteries(so you don't short the new relay out if you cross the polarity with a wrench) ,remove the four wires from the ceramic relay, un-fasten the relay from the base. reverse the process with the new relay. CAUTION; do not over-tighten the nuts on the wire studs, you could crack the ceramic relay.(iv'e done it) . hope this helps

SOURCE: WHERE ARE THE GLOW PLUGS LOCATED ON A 6.0 FORD

I'm not 100% familiar with that particular truck, but the glow plugs are generally located near the injectors, on the cylinder head. With all the stuff packed into newer vehicles it can be hard to spot little stuff like that. Best way I can think to tell you how to find them is to find the injectors first. They'll have a fuel line and a little wire running to them. The glow plugs should be in the vicinity, and will have either a little screw connector, or a spade connector and a wire running to them. They will look much smaller than the injectors

7.3 Liter Diesel starts hard in morning, ok if not left more than 8 hours. How to check the Glow Plugs?

Your glow plug relay is located on the top of the engine on the right side toward the front. Some models there are 2 solenoids. A large one toward the front and a smaller one right behind it. The glow plug relay is the smaller one toward the rear. The larger front one is the intkae heater relay. To test the glow plug relay turn engine to on. dont start it. both of the large terminals should have power with key on. then turn engine off. only one large terminal should have power. If when you turn engine to on you only have power on one side then go to this test. Turn engine on and test smaller wire. it should have power. If it does replace the relay. If the smaller wire does not have power you have an ignition problem or power (wiring) problem to the relay. Also note the engine needs to be cold. If temp of engine is over 130 the computer will not turn the glow plug circut on! Most of th time this is what fails and not your glow plugs.

Glow plugs

Gasoline engines dont use glow plugs. glow plugs are for diesel engines some people call glow plugs as heater plugs, but well, if you are refering to a toyota corolla, then you must have been refering to the SPARK PLUGS. trace the four long wires(high tension wires) that goes to the engine, pull the rubber boot and you will see the spark plugs, its kinda deep though so you will need a flashlight.
