We recently started having a problem printing from PCs to a KM C451 with a user/pswd specified -- the print job goes to the "Save" tab on the job history but never prints and does not go to a user box. When printing to Public user, it prints as expected. The user/pswd is specified on the User Authentication side of the Authentication/Account Track window. The particular user does not have a user box set up. All of these jobs show as completed.

    Hi larryab,

Thanks for the response. These are all WinXP machines, and the setup worked for over a year.

If I switch the printer driver to Public user authentication, it will print with no problem. The output method is always Print; if it had been changed to Secure Print or User Box, the users would've been asked for either credentials or a user box, and that has not happened.

What's particularly annoying is that when something is printed, there is no error on the PC, as far as it's concerned, it printed just fine. On the MFP, it beeps, nothing prints, and it ends up in the job history for "Save" jobs as if it were a user box; however, the details for any of these jobs shows no user box, and no errors. And it doesn't show up in any of the existing user boxes.

Of about 10 PCs using this printer, 3 are having the problem. However, they all have the same user specified for the Authentication User.

The KM print drivers are installed on each PC; i.e. no shared queue.

I think I'll try deleting the user at the copier and re-creating it. I'll let you know what happens one way or the other.

This is caps sensitive. Keep this in mind. Also, if you are using Vista, the driver may not be aquiring the setting properly to allow printing using authentication. Check to ensure that the settings for authentication or account track match the settings on the MFP. If this all doesnt work, (depending on the application youa re printing from) try turning "print without Authentication" to allow or enable.

You should also make sure that the driver is not set to "secure print". This is not the same as printing to a box, and has nothing to do with authentication. It can be accessed by going to the box mode and then under system box choose secure print, enter your credentials and you will probably get your job. Sorry I missed one crucial bit of your entry, and that was that the job is marked as completed in the joblist. authentication failure would be marked as failure to print or deleted due to error. Output method should be set to print (not secure or password print). authentication is not related to these features and is only used for output rules ont he machine. Jobs printed to a box are printed byt he rules of the logged in user. (at the MFP)

Is it server printing through a shared Queue or is it installed locally on each PC? Also, is the problem isolated to this user? If isolated to one user, I would remove their UA code from the copier, remove their driver from the PC, and reconfigure. Its not often i've seen it corrupt at the copier, (but I have) more likely at the PC. The odd part is the "Saved" joblist part. I would expect that if this is problem at the copier, more users would see the same. Ill watch for your reply.

Use on black cartridge

When you start to print out a job or document, the job starts with the print box. Your default printer will appear in the drop-down box. To the right of that box is the properties box, open it with a click. The top tab marked COLOR is selected and you want to select the block, "print in grey scale only". When you start to print another job, the greyscale will have to be set again and again. Some printers will let you remove the color Cartridge and print only in B&W, but not many. (some HP's)

My printer is not printing in color its a oki c6100 in only prints in black and white

Oki appear to only have made a B6100 model printer, this is actually classed as a workgroup mono printer and only prints in black and white, It is not a colour printer here in the UK. I think the US may have this as a C6100 and I think it is similar to the 5000 series of printers. the user manual can be found at http://my.okidata.com/PP-C6100n.nsf?opendatabase . I would print a Menu Map and check the settings and also check the driver setting is not set to B/W printing.

I assume the print driver is on the server and shared. I would start there. I would think someone changed the default setting on that driver. Go to printing preferences, job tab, and see how it is set.
Or re-install the print driver and start over.
Of course, on any problem, Kyocera will always ask you if you have the latest software installed on the machine.
