Is my jazzy wheelchair a 12volt od 24 volt system

Tandem batteries... is a fairly loose term to be dealing with on batteries... SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ARE EXPLOSIVE.

It depends on how it and the wheelchair are wired and how the voltage is derived.

Presumably the 24 volt wheelchair requirement is provided by two 12 volt batteries connected in series and these could be recharged in series by a 24 volt charger and a pair of wires or by a 12 volt charger providing a 12 - 0 - 12 using three wires where one 12 is a positive in relation to the 0 and the other is a negative in relation to the zero making a potential difference of 24 volts.

There could conceivably be circuitry within the wheelchair that requires only 12 volts for recharging and causes the two batteries to be charged separately, though while this method could be desirable and offer some benefits it would be considered unnecessarily expensive and complicated for most commercial purposes.

As usual you really need to know what is supposed to happen or is designed to happen before fault-finding can begin. One of the wires could be a safety ground wire but most likely it is used to provide some sort of feedback to the charger from, perhaps, a thermal switch close to the batteries so charging will cease if too much heat is generated.

They need to be wired in series. Jazzy chairs run on 24 - 26 volts.

1) Order a new charger. 24 volt 3-amp.
2) Replace the batteries if they are over a year old. Usually two each size U1 gel\AGM or SLA 12volt 34amp-hour.

Either the charger is bad or the batteries are too old. If the batteries are allowed to go dead completely the 24 volt charger will not recover. You'll need to seperate the batteroes and use a 12 volt automotive charger to charge the batteries. Make sure the 12volt charger is able to charge gell cell batteries. Not all will.

Original Jazzy Select has push-down levers on each side behind powered wheels. These manually disengage the brakes on each motor individually. They are about 6 inches long and push down an inch or so. I don;t know about other more current models, The 2 smaller wires to each motor disengage the brake when given power (24 volt, I think). The 2 larger wires run the motor.

Bob why don't you run a small 2 wire cable from one battery to the armrest where your joystick is located and attach the new horn and a small push button switch to the joystick bracket coming from under the armrest. loosen the knob tightening the joystick bar and pull it out enough for you to attach the horn and button to it. I 'm not sure if that will work because I don't know what the new horn looks like but you can also mount the horn under the shroud near the battery and run the wire to the switch at the joystick. yep they are so that you are providing 24 v dc to power the motors. Your chair should have 2 battery boxes that contain one 22nf battery each and have the connectors that allow them to supply 24 volts to your chair. Hope this helps

It should be wired in series and therefore 24 Volts.

This won't actually give you 24 volts... All this will do is give you more amps in a traditional circuit. You could run them in a series.... but I wouldn't recommend that. Those batteries are built to provide 12 volts. What do you need 24 volts for?
