Machine will not pick up the bobbin thread.

I have oiled, cleaned, rethreaded, and replaced the needle. Singer 2639. Problem began when I was sewing a decorative stitch and went over a thick seam with several layers of fabric. I would have thought it was a bent needle, but a new needle did not correct the problem. Now even when straight stitching I cannot pick up the bobbin thread.

If your machine's needle threads from front to back, make sure that the flat part of the needle shank points to the rear of the machine. If it threads from left to right, the flat side should face right, etc.

Thread started bunching on underside of project & tangling around bobbin. Now the needle won't pick up bobbin thread, even after changing needle 2x and re-threading upper thread. What's wrong?

Hmmm, could be several things.
Try a brand new needle. Try a different brand of thread.
Remove the top thread from the machine. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

If it still will not pick up the bobbin thread, the machine could be out of time.

Needle will not pick up bobbin thread

Try installing a brand new needle. Rethread the machine from the very beginning. The machine could be out of time, ie the needle and hook timing do not match.

I have a new Singer 5532

Put in a new needle. Unthread the machine then rethread it being sure it is threaded correctly--especially through the tension control. Remove the bobbin and make sure it is wound correctly. Replace the bobbin and being certain that it is in the correct position. Check the manual if you are unsure how your machine is threaded or how to replace the needle.

I have a Singer Confidence 7469 the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have cleaned and oiled the hook area and feed dogs. What do you suggest?

Try changing the needle

Try rethreading the machine top and bobbin

Make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way In the bobbin case

It's possible that the machine needs to be checked for a timing problem

I am having trouble getting my singer 6199 sewing machine to sew. The top thread will not pick up bot thread. I tried changing needle, changing bobbin, rewinding bobbin, rethreading machine & bobbin,...

did you get the needle in correctly--all the way up into the needle holder
& the flat side of the needle goes to the back of the machine

also after you check the needle & it's in correctly it's very possible that the machine is out of time & a sewing machine repair technican would have to retime the machine

Bobbin thread wont pick up

Be sure needle is inserted correctly with the flat side in the proper position. Rethread the machine and try again. If it still won't work you have a timing problem which requires a technician or a good mechanic.
