When I print, there is a blob of toner that appears in the upper left corner of some pages. It is not necessarily consecutive pages. The example I have is p1 blob, p2 clear, p3 blob, p4-6 clear, p7 blob, p8 clear, p9 blob. Any suggestions as to what to change, clean, correct, etc?
try removing your drum unit and using the blue tab on unit, clean the corona wire by sliding back and forth several times. make sure you put tab back on same side it was on. this will work if it is putting what i refer to as "zebra" stripes on page.

Are the supplies you are using OEM ( original equipment manufactured ).... or is it remanufactured? I've had issues with some of the remanufactured products ( or rebuilt ). I would also take the toner out and inspect the paper path for toner and clean it out with a 3m vaccuume and a lint free wipe.
Other than that it might need a new fuser.
Web site designers create Web pages for display on a monitor, not for
users to print on 8.5- x 11-inch pieces of paper. This becomes obvious
the first time you try to print a Web page. Content you need may get
chopped off by the right printer margin, whereas content you don’t
need, such as the site’s copyright information, will print on its own
sheet of paper. Fortunately, you can avoid such problems with a little
foresight.
Before printing any Web page, open Internet
Explorer’s File menu and select Print Preview. The current Web page
will appear on-screen exactly as it will print on paper. Scan the
preview carefully. If it appears that some content is chopped off by
the right margin, click the Page Setup button located directly to the
right of the Print button in the upper-left corner of the Print Preview
window. In the resulting Page Setup dialog box, adjust the left and
right margins so that each is set to 0.25 inches. The extra inch of
space you gain by resetting the margins should provide just enough room
to accommodate all of the content on most sites. Click OK to save the
changes and return to the Print Preview window.
Next, scan the
preview to determine which pages contain the content you want to print.
Take note of those pages and click the Print button in the upper-left
corner of the Print Preview window. Locate the Print Range heading and
select the Pages option. Type the number of the first page you want to
print in the From field and type the number of the last page you want
to print in the To field. For instance, if you want to print just the
first three pages of a Web page’s content, type 1 in the From field and
type 3 in the To field. If your browser doesn’t have To and From
fields, type the range of pages (such as 1-3) in the corresponding
field. Make sure your printer has paper and click Print.
First thing to try is this, please go to control panel on the printer and to aministration menu. Scroll down to troubleshooting and find the PQ troubleshooting option and press ok. This will print a series of test prints. If these prints look OK then likely you have an issue with your driver. If they are faded, the second thing you need to do is check to make sure that your firmware revision is current. On the config page that prints with the pages just printed above, look on the upper left for firmware revision. Current version is 46.300.0. Download from here and install following the instruction in the readme file. Did it print OK before changing cartridges? If you installed remanufactured or 3rd party cartridges, the toner will not always provide the same quality of print.
lamp has probably gone out, but, if when you replace lamp purple blob is still on screen then light engine is bad, need to call Sony and see if is on extended warranty.
there might be dirrt on your lense, chip or some of the pixles might have died on your chip, buy some lense cleaner and try to clean your lense, theat will probably fix it.
Sometimes when toner starts to get low prints will faed or not print on sides. Make sure the printer is on a very level surface. Remove the toners and shake lightly left to right and reinstall.
