SOURCE: blade installation

i had the same problem and i fixed mine ( it is not broken) ... the tongue is the thing that is silver and has grooves that face upward, the tongue should be up compared to pressed against the shave, take a small screw driver or a kitchen knife and get under the tongue and lift it up, once this is done you need to slide it on the blades and snap it down, i found that i did not need to have the clippers on to put it back on.... at first i got confused in thinking that the tongue was the red thing at the top, and in actuality this is the thing that moves the blades to clip.... i hope this helps, once you get the tongue up the blades are on in 10 seconds...

SOURCE: Bought Oster Golden A5 clippers new but did not

There is a small gun-metal colored bar at the very rear, just below the back of the blade. It pushes inward, in the direction of the blade. Push it firmly in and pull up on the teeth of the blade. It should pop upward. You can then remove the blade from the tongue that it sits upon. When you want to put it back, slide the blade back on the tongue, then, WITH THE MOTOR TURNED ON, push the blade down to its seated position. It will click into place.
Terms regarding these devices are all too often assumed as understood. For most purposes, these are what you have to know for the A5 Oster. The cover plate is the part with two screws that has the name and other info on it. If you remove the two screws and the plate, you will see a nylon part that moves the blade back and forth--that is the lever. The other end of the lever, with a hole in it, is connected to a metal part called the link. Both parts are easily removed by simply pulling them upward from the device. The bakelite gear is the part that the link sits on (the larger hole in the link). It too can be simply pulled up off the metal shaft that it rides upon (careful not to lose the washer under it). That gear is turned by the armature gear of the motor (which is where things get much too involved to cover here, but from that point on the device very rarely has problems). Incidentally, the lever, the link, and the gear can all quite simply be replaced. They are available quite inexpensively at Amazon under Oster A5 Clipper parts (note that the one speed and the two speed take different bakelite gears, but the lever and the link are the same). If you were to replace parts such as these or simply lubricate them, remember that a good white lithium grease is recommended in light application for the gear and the shafts (lever and gear shafts and armature gear). Also, the gear shaft has a hole down its middle (and two small holes that lead to the outside of the shaft. The shaft should be filled with grease so that grease can get through those small holes to lubicate the inside of the bakelite bearing. The two pads (one on each side of the lever) should be oiled. The simple way to tell if you need to replace parts is to grip the blade end of the lever while all parts are in place and try to move it back and forth, as though it were running the blade. If there is any more than the slightest movement, replace the lever (replace that anyway if the part that contacts the blade is rounded off) link and gear.
Good luck.

How do I put size 4 blade on clipper

The A5 clipper should have a locking hinge the hinge should be open and slide the clipper blade onto the hinge, now push on the clipper blade bachward and it will snap on. if you don't hear a snap sound the hinge on the clipper maybe worn out and don't have no spring tension.

Someone gave me an Oster A5 single clipper to sheer out goats, we are new to this. what size blade do we need and is there one or two blades on this clipper

Can't help you with the blade you will need to shear goats, but I can tell you that there are many blades for the A5, as well as many combs that fit over the blade to let you adjust for the length of coat you want to leave. Amazon lists many blades and combs under Oster A5 Clipper Blades. They probably have brief descriptions of what each blade is best used for, as well as customer comments regarding their effectiveness. There are a number of other places that sell blades if you look for them with Google. Also eBay, but there you probably won't get a description of what blade is good for what.
Good luck.

Run but will not cut

Are you sure you have Andis A5 or did you mean Oster A5 Clipper, if this clipper is A5 Clipper, You need to check the Lever for wear, The front of the Lever show wear on both side, Like white color and is not squad this Lever is worn. Need to replace. This Lever moves the blade side to side fully. if the Lever is worn the blade will not move fully side to side and the cutter blade the smaller blade will stay in the middle with hardly no travel to side to side and will not cut the hair even if you purchase new blades. Also I would like to mention if the Oster Locking Hinge is worn out and don't have the require tension to hold the blade in place the blade will not cut. How do you test the Oster Hinge on a Oster A5 Clipper,
(1) first close the hinge, in close potion with your finger nail try to open the Hinge, if the hinge slightly open or opens loose the Hinge is worn. if the Hinge is good it will not open or move and your nail may just brake your nail.
Many of my customers run into this type of problem, and the problem can be solve easily by checking these parts first.
One more item I would mention here if replace the A5 Hinge make sure you get the A5 Hinge not the Oster 76 Hinge they are driferrent, The A5 Hinge has on the back two wire's sticking out that fit on the Oster Latch for the A5 Hinge, the Oster 76 Hinge would not have these wire's on the back. I recommend replacing the Latch when you replace the Hinge. I hope this helps any body that have a A5 Oster clipper or A Oster 76 Clipper.

Fixable A5 Clippers?

If the power lever (the tab that moves the blade back and forth) is not moving with the blade off, or only moving sometimes, chances are that you have a stripped bakelite gear. Take the two screws out of the cover plate and remove it. Remove the lever (the nylon part that moves the blade) Remove the link (the metal part that the lever connects with). Remove the bakelite gear (the part that the link fits down over). You should then be able to see if the teeth are chewed or worn off to the point that the armature gear will not turn the bakelite gear. If that is the case, replace the gear. Amazon2.gif carries both single speed and 2 speed gears under Oster A5 clipper parts. All these parts should have a light coat, where they move, of lithium grease, and the two pads (one on each side of the lever) should be oiled. You might also check the condition of your brushes (under the caps on each side of the clipper. Take cap off, remove cover from brush, remove spring and brush to see how worn they are).
Good luck.

A rattle problem with my Oster Golden A5 Clipper!

The screws on the side of the housing don't serve any purpose other than keeping the brush and spring in the clipper. You can send your blade in for realignment or call 800-830-3678(factory service) and they will help you with all your issues.
