Bobbin won't wind up thread 2010 singer

It appears the first two steps are the same as for top thread but rather then taking the thread all the way down towards needle you make a wrap around the bobbin tension disc then to the bobbin. There is no hook at the second step, it's just where there thread exits from behind the large plastic piece.

Be sure the bobbin winding spindle is full to the left.

You may need to clean/oil the machine.

I've never seen this type of winding system. But from the manual on page 10, it shows that in order to disengage the machine from sewing mode.. you need to have the bobbin cover slide plate slightly open.

Also make sure that your bobbin doesn't have any burrs. If it does, toss it and use a new one.

Which Singer machine do you have? I know how to wind and insert a full bobbin for some models.

Some wind the bobbin with it in the case. This is the case with my Touch & Sew. Inserting a full bobbin is simple. Open the slide plate and drop in the bobbin with the rings up. Make sure that to hold the bobbin thread so that it comes off at the left. Then close the slide plate and make sure that the end of the bobbin thread is coming through the notch. Hold onto the threads and turn the handwheel until the top and bottom thread come back up with a twist. To wind a bobbin for this machine, open the slide plate (some models have a little mark to line up the slide plate). Put in the empty bobbin and thread the top normally. Set the machine to straight stitch and push the bobbin wind button in. (This has a bulls-eye symbol on it.) Wrap the end of the top thread around the presser foot screw several times and hold onto the end. Step on the foot control to start winding. Keep winding until the bobbin is full. The thread wound onto the screw should break. Pull some extra thread and cut it to separate the top and bottom threads. Close the slide plate and set your desired stitch.

Other models are wound at the top of the machine. For some of with a drop-in bobbin, you need to bring the thread down to a catch and then off to the left to another catch. Some have a vertical bobbin. I don't remember if they all have a removable case. Those that do need the thread to come through a notch on the case that pulls the thread under a spring that keeps the bobbin tension. However you should check your manual. It sounds like your path for your thread around the guide is not correct, read your maual, page 10 and see that you have to cross over your thread to give the right tension, then slide your bobbin over to touch the lever. Also, remember to hold the tail of the thread for a few rotations before you let go. If, you do not have a manual, go to singerco.com and download one for free.

Recheck the top thread and bobbin tension for equal balance of thread when sewing. The knotting of thread problem is usually because the tensions are too tight or too loose and/or thread may not be properly threaded. Another reason is when the bobbin thread is wind imbalanced it will cause the thread to knot-up when sewing. This problem is notorious when the bobbin is winded within the bobbin case on some machines. The bobbin thread need to be wind smoothly in the bobbin to avoid this problem.

It sounds like you don't have any tension on the thread when winding the bobbin. Make sure that you are running the thread through the tension disc on the top of the machine before going to the bobbin winder.

I just figured out why my bobbine was winding on shaft instead of on the bobbin. first of all make sure the bobbin is setting up high enough, top of bobbin needs to be a fraction higher then the bobbin shuttle, next check to make sure there are no burrs on the bobbin, then make sure that the thear is catching in the groove (**** in top) of the bobbin. In order to get mine to wind i had to lett the tread go down and then slip the thread in the groove. also remember to leave the pressure foot up do not put it down. let me know if this helps.

that's a nice machine, one of the last mechanical Elnas with the discs for extra stitches. Firstly, you need to wind a bobbin, always use Elna swiss metal bobbins, with holes on one side only, slightly dished. Put on top of the bobbin spindle and take the thread from your spool on the spool holders at the back of the machine across to the tension disc on top left, its white bump, thread through the tension then back to the bobbin and pull the tail through a hole in the top of the bobbin. Flick bobbin across to the right against the stop, disengage the clutch by holding the outer flywheel and turning the inner towards you. Now press the foot pedal to start winding a bobbin, holding the thread tail so it starts off. Wind one full coverage of the bobbin so that the starting point is covered, then stop and cut the tail off with scissors. Now continue winding at 3/4 speed until bobbin is full, watch as it winds and give the thread a nudge with your finger so it fills top and bottom as well as in the middle of the bobbin. When it is full, the bobbin spindle will stop winding. Move it to the left, cut the thread and reennage the clutch by holding flywheel and turning the inner the other way. Now install the bobbin and click the thread into the tension device, see image.



Now thread up the top thread by taking the top thread from the spool, through the tension discs, across to the eyelet on top, down to the check spring, back up to the take up lever, then down to the needle catching the thread into the two thread guides enroute.

Now thread through the needle front to back, hold the top thread, close the bobbin cover leaving the tail sticking out the top, lower the needle down by turning the flywheel towards you through one cycle and pull the top thread, drawing the bobbin thread up to the top of the needle plate with it. Pull both threads under the pressure foot to the back and your ready to go. Remember, top tension should be on 5 and bottom tension should be on the red 1, don't change it. Brush out the bobbin holder assembly each time you use this machine and add one drop of oil into the middle of the bobbin holder, there may be a red dot or just the indenation. Run the machine for 30 seconds after oiling without thread, slowly to spread the oil through the bobbin mechanism. Standard 130/704H needles, change regularly (6 hours of sewing) and pick right sized needle and type point for the work you are sewing. Good luck with your SU. Threading the bobbin - winding thread onto the bobbin.

Position the new empty bobbin onto the vertical bobbin rod next to the end wheel. Click the rod to the right to engage drive. Hold the outer end wheel with left hand, and rotate the inner wheel anticlockwise by about a 1/2 turn (it stops) this removes drive from the foot and needle mechanism.

From a spool of thread on the top, thread to a loop/post on the left on the top. Then back to the bobbin you want to wind. Thread through a hole from the inside-out. Hold the thread vertically above the bobbin while you depress the footswitch to start winding. Let go when it's turned a few times.

Move bobbin shaft left, and tighten end wheel after winding enough.

Fitting bobbin-

Move footplate towards you, insert bobbin in hole so that bobbin rotates anticlockwise when thread is pulled, then pull thread into the fine notch towards you. After this position thread away from you, and slide the footplate closed.

To start / load thread. Hold the end 3" of the thread through the needle behind the sewing foot. hand crank towards you to sew first stitch in air. This should retrieve the lower thread - which you can catch with a handy pair of scissors. Then pull both threads rearwards - ready to sew.
