Tony, this sounds like you may need to have a new burner switch installed, it is called an infinite switch. If it is for the dual burner, make sure you tell the appliance parts store this so they can order you a dual infinite switch.
If unplugging it for a couple minutes and plugging back in does not rectify then it sounds like a bad spark module or a shorted wire inside. All 4 should spark at the same time when any burner is used. (Does trying to light a burner make the other 2 spark too?) Eric
Hi, You asked a very generic question but I will try to give you a good answer. If the pilot is good and you can light the burner with a match, (this checks everything else) then the most common problem would be the burner holes in front of the pilot are clogged. When cool, remove the burner and inspect the holes, any debris needs to be removed, a bent paper clip works really well. Compressed air helps as well. If there is a tube to the pilot make sure it is exactly where it belongs and that it is clean. If the match didn't light the burner or the flames is not all blue like the rest, there is something else wrong and you need to get back to us with a make and model to better help you. Make sure the burner gets seated back on the orifice correctly and best of Luck to you!
If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:
Turn you burner to the Lite position:
If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.
If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.
Clean the burner and electrode:
First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.
Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.
Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.
Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.
Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.
The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.
Will have to ask some basic questions first. How old is the stove? What is the entire model # from the sticker on the unit? Is this LP or natural gas? Also, make sure that the orifices in the center of the burners are clean (can use a safety pin or paper clip to poke them a few times to clean). Make sure that the black caps are on top of the burners and seated properly or they will not lite. Let me know what you find.
