Approximately every 3rd disc I play in this new player freezes up at some point during the playback. I usually remove the disc, look for scratches, etc. Usually find one - sometimes tiny, sometimes bigger. Then I'll clean the disc and this usually doesn't help but does sometimes. If this doesn't help, I'll usually finish watching the disc on my computer which has much less "sensitivity". Should I return this player? Robert

i have the same problem, i put any dvd and it freezews during the play. there is nothing to do, must restart and sometime have to wait one day before i can restart. i have tried at leat 12 different dvd and it freezes everytime on every single one of them. I have tried clening... no success. Now Sony replacement plan cost 150.00!!!! I have paid 200.00 for the player. At this point i hsould buy a new one or get a replacement? Probably replacement but at that price I feel i am buying a new one.... I am disapointed with Sony. Don't buy DVP-FX810 seems i am not the only one with the problem.

Step1There are a few ways to get your dvd/cd drive release itself. The first thing you should try is shut your equipment completely off for a couple of minutes allowing it to cool down. Once you turn it back on try to press the release button on your equipment. Step2If that does not work try to use a very thin flat tip screwdriver. Insert in on one of the sides of the dvd/cd drive and try to pull it out softly while pressing the eject button simultaneously. Do not force it out but give enough pressure while pressing the eject button. Step3More than likely inserting a screwdrive should release the dvd/cd drive. You can also try a butterknife as well just don't use to much force. Something else to check for is to make sure the power is acutally on for the device. If you are trying to open a drive that is not even on it will never open up for you.

You should get Asian firmware.
They are (despite printed DVD Region 3, BD Region A) all DVD region free. Tested on mine (bought in Thailand).
Panasonic BD30 was also DVD Region free. The firmware for that one is available from Panasonic website. Not sure if there's another way than automatic update from inside BD player to upgrade Sony.

I once had a similar problem, although with a different TV. It was insufficient to just power down the TV -- I had to unplug the TV so that it would re-initialize. It solved my issue.
