SOURCE: HK AVR 645 7.1-Receiver Turns off when sound starts to come through
Hello, I didn't end up fixing the Blu-ray issue, but the TV issue was caused by just inverting the positive and negative cable going into my speaker. Odd enough, instead of just not working, it just flipped the entire system off. I can definitely see that that could be the issue, another one I thought of is, at the time I didn't realize that DVI doesn't play audio, only video and I didn't have a optical cable connected. I decided to avoid the hassle, sell the TV and purchased one that has HDMI. Muuuuch better.

First try ensuring that "OPT 1, 2, or 3" function is selected depending which one you are using on the H/K 146 (see manual for selection instructions). Next please ensure that the PS3 audio out set to "optical" (Settings/sound settings/audio output settings/digital out+DD 5.1). That should help.

HDMI cables contain both your audio & video in one cable. Remove your optical cable from the box and disable in in the cable box menu and that should fix your problem.
SOURCE: HK AVR35 Receiver - Dolby Digital not displaying or working
If the display is showing as optical/PCM, then the input signal is in 2 Ch Stereo.
Try to change the signal from the source i.e. the DVD player, On the remote, go to audio and press repatedly , the audio would change from audio1, audio 2 .... and so on, depending upon how may have been recorded on the DVD. If the DVD is recorded in Dolby Digital, it may show the audio as Dolby Digital 5.1 on you monitor. Once this setting has been done, your Receiver should automatically detect it and show as Optical/Dolby digital.
Please let me know if you you solve your problem.

Check that the player's Dolby / DTS is enabled. Sometimes it is defaulted in the player to 2.0 / Stereo PCM. What model Samsung? Those Harman receivers are old favorites of mine...
