try changing the needle-flat side goes to the back of the machine check to see if the thread has come off the thread take up lever try rethreading the machine top thread & bobbin clean under the needle plate area & also in the bobbin area for lint or loose threads
to see if a needle & thread are compatable, take a strand of the thread your going to use & the needle your going to sew with & put the thread thru the eye of the needle & hold it at a 90 degree angle & see if the needle goes down the thread easily
check the needle plate to see if there's any burrs or sharp edges & the bobbin case also
make sure the top thread does not come off the thread take up lever, cause that can make it jam also
it also possible that the machine could be out of time & would need to be serviced at a repair shop
- Re-thread your machine, it may be threaded incorrectly.
- Raise your feed dogs if your machine has this feature.
Note: when you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.

* When you start to sew a seam, hold onto the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.
* Un-thread your machine and remove your bobbin. Clean any loose thread or lint out of your bobbin case. Re-thread your machine, reinsert and re-thread your bobbin.
* Change your bobbin There could be a nick along the edge of your bobbin spool that’s catching your thread as you sew.

when you say 'bobbin thread bunches' i take it that when you look at the underside of what you have sewn it looks messy. if this is the case and the machine is threaded correctly and the the needle thread is tight enough to bend the needle a little when pulled (with presser foot down) it will most likely be that you need to increase needle tension (maybe to max) when sewing thick fabrics with thicker than normal thread.
if the the needle does not bend a little you may not have the thread in between the tension discs, or there may be thread or lint caught in the tension discs preventing proper tension (try pulling a thin rag through the tension discs to dis-lodge any foreign matter).
You don't have the thread in the take up lever or it is not in the tension. Rethread it , Pull the thread through the tension assembly and
test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or
something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the
tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It
should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the
take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your
needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way. set your tension to 5 and try it. sewman7
