SOURCE: My easy note laptop will not start up!

This can happen if some newly installed hardware behaves unexpectedly or one of ur existing has developed a problem. To confirm just run system restore.Follwo the following procedure: Start->Run type "msconfig" then click on launch system restore and select a restore point. If this fixes the problem fine. Other wise download "driverscan"(search it in google)and run it.It will show you if there is any compatibility issues or problems.

SOURCE: nx 6110 boot up issue

None of the above. Sorry. All those "solutions" are "shooting in the dark". There is a definitive method of determining the problem here, without guesswork.

The "HP screen" you speak of is an "advertising mask" governed by the "quiet boot" option in BIOS.

This HP screen is shown INSTEAD of showing you exactly what BIOS is "doing" at that moment: First, a ROM checksum to verify BIOS is OK, then a quick system check of the most basic components, and if that goes well, the next thing it does is count AND check the RAM. Finally, after all that is done, it will look for a hard drive and query that drive for cylinder or LBA size, then look at MBR for sector zero, to find an operating system.

So here is what you must do to SEE all that taking place:

1. Make sure the system is TOTALLY cold (off, not in any ACPI state). Do this by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds, then release.

2. Remove Battery and the PSU (AC power supply)

3. Insert the PSU connector (only) this will also eliminate any battery problems. Batteries with dead cells can pull out so much current that you get slow boot/running performance. More on this later.

4. Now, start the computer, and keep pressing ESC key, quickly. It may start beeping. Stop and wait then.

5. Next, you will see a BLACK screen instead of HP screen. There will be some white text that scrolls. First the BIOS type and version. Next, RAM will be counted, and last, a HD will be reported. Last (or if any of the above have a problem) any errors will be reported. Some BIOS will specify the error, others will report it as "code XXX". Send me (post) this info, and I will analyze the problem.

NOTE: you can hit the PAUSE key at any time, to read the info, if it runs too fast for you. Then press PAUSE key again, to resume the BIOS data post process. Once you have reported back with any errors (as in step 5 above), we can also do this same thing with Windows, to "see" the black screen/errors reported as the PC boots.

SOURCE: Toshiba latop 0201 #ide problem

IDE #0 is your primary hard drive.

Toshiba's System Errors indicate that the error 0201 Failure IDE #0 may be caused by bad contact points where the drive plugs into the laptop chassis. Toshiba recommends pulling the hard drive in and out several times to clean up the male/female contact points.

Toshiba also said that if this doesn't work to contact one of their service centers for assistance.

The contact points solution rarely works, but is worth a try. Most likely, your hard drive failed and needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: Laptop HP NX9010 will not boot, Will go to bios, powers off after that.

It still sound like the hardrive, you can download a live cd of linix and try to see if it will run on linix,if so try reformatting the hardrive and reinstall windows,if you can get a copy of windows 98 and install that first 98 has a tendency to repair bad sectors of a harddrive,I have had many laptop drives not take xp untill I put 98 first.

Lenovo G470 the power is on but no display

So Power is on but no display. Does it look like the laptop booted all the way? Does it look like the laptop is running but there is no display?

If the laptop is running, you hear the fans running, the hard drive running, etc. but the display is black, try the steps below:
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

My lenovo netbook no displayed in the monotor screen. i see power when i turn it on. please help me to fix

Hi and welcome to fixya!

First thing you do for this is shut down the machine by just pressing and holding the power button for about 5 seconds.
Then unplugged the charger and take out the battery.
Next is press and hold the power button again for 10 seconds, without the charger and battery this time.
Put the battery back in and the charger and turn on the machine normally. This should solve the issue 95% of the time. If it does not, time to contact the warranty support for Lenovo.

Hope this helps!

My Lenovo, G550 turns on every light comes on except the screen the light for the power is on but nothing will get screen on can you help me

Hi eseitz26,

For your G550 issue that no display will show on your screen after turning it on although all the lights are showing there are different reasons why you're getting this issue. The two most common issues are:

(1) The system just needed to be refreshed and reset the BIOS. Don't worry because resetting BIOS is just easy and you can do this on your own. Simply power drain your machine.

Here's how: Shut down your PC >> Remove the battery and unplug AC adapter >> Without any power source press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds (nothing will happen yet) >> Put back the battery and the charger >> Then, turn on your PC.

(2) The LCD cable from your screen going to the motherboard is loosed, that needed to be repaired or defective, and it needs replacement. For this one, you may contact Lenovo to give you options about the repair.

Well, in some rare cases screen might be also defective and needs replacement. You may also take a look on that possibility.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Laptop screen is not showing anything after power is on

if the power is on and the screen does not show up , try to hook an external monitor using the VGA cable. If the screen does show up, it means that the problem is in the laptop LCD monitor itself. Otherwise if the external monitor does not show up, that means your laptop does not boot anymore to the operating system. Try to turn off the power and remove the power cable and battery on the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the battery and power cables on the laptop then turn on the laptop. If there is still no screen displayed then call Lenovo for repair of your laptop.

Laptop format

Just bought Lenovo S10 and so unlucky that window crashed. So have to restore my Lenovo S10 to factory settings. Can’t really find how ot restore to factory settings in Lenovo S10 from the User Manual. So check from google, after many many search, finally found the solution.
For Lenovo S10 to restore to factory settings follow the steps below:-

  • Turn off your Lenovo. (i mean shut down and make sure it’s power off)
  • Now press on the “One Key Recovery” key at the top of your Keyboard, your Lenovo S10 should boot up. Else hold down the “One Key Recovery” key until it boot up.

  • Now you may choose “Restore to factory settings” from the screen and proceed for the restoration.
** the restoration will first check if your windows files has been corrupted, if yes, then it will restore it to the original state and no restore is required. else it will continue with the restoration

Signing out problem

To turn off, hold down power button (may take "long" time--6-8seconds). It WILL shut down.

If recurring problem, check setup settings for Power switch and lid options--turn off, go into standby, etc.
