On 230 volts you have 3 wires 2 are 115 volt and the third wire is ground. As long as you hook the ground wires together correctly the other wires don't matter. Usually the ground wire is either white or green. The black wires are hot (115 volts).

SOURCE: how to wire it up

if the unit has a starter on it there will be 2 terminals at the top of the starter connect the incoming wires two these terminals making sure that the 2 wires do not touch each other. If unit has only a pressure switch the wires should be tied to the terminals marked line , 1 wire per terminal please.

SOURCE: i need a wiring diagram for a kobalt 60 gallon air compressor

If it's a 220 volt motor, hook l1 and l2 (220 volts) to the line terminals. If it's a'dual voltage' motor (120 or 220)and you want to use 120, hook 120 to the terminals marked 'line'. Make sure the motor is connected for the voltage you're using if it's dual voltage.

SOURCE: I wish to rewire a single phase electric motor

The motor itself should have a sticker which describes the wiring for 115. It is a small change involving a single wire moving from one pole to another inside the motor starter cap (the bump on the motor itself).

I have a 1 1/2 hp 230/110 marathon single phase motor controlled by forward reversing starters with 24 volt controlled. How do I wire this motor up for for/rev ???

You need to determine at which voltage you will run this motor. A motor starter mechanically and electrically interlocked for F & R. with 24v transformer, a SS and FR station. This is expensive but sweet, needs room for this equipment.
The easy budget is by using a drum switch.
The motor nameplate or splice box cover will hand the info on how to connect the motor for either voltage and for CW and CCW rotation.
The magnetic motor starter also will include a wiring diagram.
