I have a similiar problem with my LG refrigerator. The freezer settings get stuck on 6 and 7, while the refrigerator side is showing nothing. Pushing the buttons to adjust the temperature does nothing. The whole time, my food is getting spoiled.

SOURCE: refrigerator cooling issue

If it's not a defrost problem then it will be a freon/compressor problem which has a 5 year warranty.

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it’s in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.

The freezer coil is froze up and the fridge part is not staying cold. Could it be because the coil is froze up or could it be a bad thermostat?

Hi Rob,

The problem in your case is most probably with the defrost thermostat.

It can be found on the evaporator i.e. freezing coils , it's round disc like with two wires.

If you get this replaced with a new proper working unit ,

Also make sure you replace the defrost timer as well if the problem persists.
Hope this helps ..:)

Error code er ff.how do i fix this? freezer is still freezing but fridge is warm.

The error code appears when there is an abnormality of BLDC FAN Motor for Freezer. It circulates cold air from the freezer to the fridge to allow cooling. Check the motor wiring harness for poor connections. If the motor is not working at all, you need to replace it.
To remove the fan and motor assembly:
  1. Remove the freezer shelf. (If your refrigerator has an
    icemaker, remove the icemaker first).
  2. Remove the plastic guide for slides on left side by
    unscrewing phillips head screws.
  3. Remove the grille by removing one screw and pulling the
    grille forward.
  4. Remove the Fan Motor assembly by loosening 2 screws
    and disassembling the shroud.
  5. Pull out the fan and separate the Fan Motor and Bracket.
  6. Replace fan motor assembly in reverse order.

Whirlpool gold side by side refrigerator is not cooling correctly. Inside temperature on setting of "6" was 41 degrees. On "5" it read 39 degrees. Noticed that it seemed warmer than usual yesterday and...

Greetings,
I'd be looking at a froze over evaporator.. The freezer usually will seem okay, and the refrigerator will be getting warmer. however, after awhile even the freezer will go out if its froze up.

The thing you need to do is determine if your freezer evaporator is frosted. If so, the air will not be able to draw thru the evaporator and get over to the fresh food section. So, defrost the coil if it is froze up and this will give you temp service.

Its difficult to troubleshoot this, but if you have a ohm meter, you need to check the resistence of your heater and defrost thermostat. if these are good..Its possible your adc is defective..9The timer)

Fridge not staying cool, freezer still freezing

Try defrosting freezer, sometimes when the defrost thermostat fails it causes ice too build up behind the walls of the freezer then it restricts the air flow to the refer side. If it works after defrosting then you probably need to get a new defrost thermostat.
