This incident happens often and damages the camcorder's power board. Replacing power board and some adjustment should resolved the problem. Your cost may run from $175-$225 in US for this model. Whenever you are transfering and connecting to pc, it is recommended to connect AC adapter power for this. Do not rely on a charged battery. Good luck.

If you know someone who has electrical testing equipment, they can test the charger to see if it is still putting out a charge. I doubt it is the battery because you said the charge light doesn't light when the unit is plugged in. Other than that, sounds like a bad component inside. Get it checked by a pro because you can get zapped or ruin something by poking around inside if you don't know what you are doing.

ITs most likely a fuse, unfortunately you can change it or its a son of a gun to change. You can check by removing the motherboard, locate the fuse, they are micro fuses, it either has the letter H or K etched on it, there could be anywhere from 1-5 of those fuses. Check for continuity if that s the problem than replace it, if you cant find a replacement micro fuse than solder over the fuse for continuity...that should make the camcorder power on, but beware once you solder over the fuse- there will be no more current protection for the camcorder. If the fuse is not the problem than it could be a loose circuit...

Most cases, with apple product, I did not have much problem compare to PC computers. I'm not a Mac user but we do have hookup at the shp and simply we use iMovie program to edit and test equipment. Here is how we do it. 1. Set the camcorder at VCR mode and play short portion for a few time for operation. 2. open iMovie program, 3. hook up the firewire cable. If this procedure did not produce the connection, you may have a hardware problem. -James
