I do some work with TomTom - it's possible that if something interrupted or went wrong during the install, the map could have been deleted. TomTom is aware of the problem and is working to fix it - if you are map-less, call support (866 486 6866) and we can work on getting you a new map.

When you do a backup in futire I recommend you do a manual one on a spare sd card. Buy a 2 gig card and litterally copy all of the tomtom contents onto it as a backup. I know this wont solve todays problem but it may stop it in future. Updates can have this effect too-my brothers tomtom froze on loading the maps but when he used my sd card it worked so he has now restored his maps with the backup. Do you have a freind with the same tomtom who could back up your software?

Device comes on but shows flashing X and nothing else.

The flashing X is usually asscosiated with a corrupt memory card or a pirate copy of a map.
if it is the later then restore the device from a backup to go back to your original map.

If it is a corrupt card then carry on reading below

This means it is not reading the SD card and that it needs to be re-formatted.

This is best done in a card reader and not the tomtom itself.
Right click on it and select format select FAT32 as the files system

Now connect the tomtom but don't let tomtom home run. exit TTH if need be.
You now need to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive.

In windows explorer select tools then folder options. Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.

Then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your SD card

DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !

Once all the files are on switch off the tom tom and insert the SD card

It should now work

Unable to download software to my computer

You need to install TomTom Home.

The link below will point you to the download site for the latest Windows PC software::

http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87

Tom Tom Home will then allow you to backup/restore your TomTom One software and get the latest updates for your current 'authorised' map.

TomTom screen frozen/won't turn off

This is usually an SD card issue. If you have one in then remove it and try again.

If there is no SD card involved then the other cause is that files may have been deleted or somehow corrupted.
In that case you would need to try and restore if you took a backup.
I have a spare card with my original tom tom software on there.

You could always try a HARD reset too !

I MADE A MISTAKE AND DOMN LOADED A MAPE TWICE AND LOST CONTACT TO

If you backed up your tom tom then restore it from that backup. Two maps should not stop you from getting to the tom tom home web but may stop the home application working properly.

If you have an SD card in remove it and try again if all is good then try put the sd card in a reader rather than the tom tom and make the required deletions from there. Or if you DO have a backup then format the card properly and then restore to it whilst it is in the reader. Then put it back in the tom-tom and you should then be back to where you need

Re: my tomtom go 920 I have connected my tomtom My pc keeps telling me to go to your home support in order to reinstall the home programme. The reason is error 0: Process failed to start up correctly....

There was an old Tom Tom Home (1.5 I think) and it is now Tom Tom HOME 2. If the icon has a little inward-facing arrow on the left-hand, lower corner then it is only a shortcut and you can safely delete them. You can always start the program by using Start, All Programs, Tom Tom etc.

Create a Restore point so you can undo the following changes and call it something like 'Pre Tom Tom HOME 2 update'.

Go to this web page:

http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87

and download the Windows version of Tom Tom HOME 2 and install the software. Tell the installing software to remove the old version of Tom Tom HOME - you won't need that any more.

Start up Tom Tom HOME 2 from the new shortcut icon that will now be on your Desktop and it should work unless you have an addition problem with your PC.

If it all goes wrong Restore your computer back to the Restore point you created above and you are back to where you started before you did anything.

TOM TOM Fix

yea you are right about the format fixing the issue....the problem with what you said,......is that once you format the unit ALL info is erased...So publically informing people to format their device is not fully correct.....If you are going to attempt to format....MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE MADE A BACK UP YOUR UNIT FIRST......this way you have info to put on it....

Tom tom one xl wont accept SD card with map on

If you have TomTom that have the slot for SD card, then it should accepted the SD card. The instruction for how to use the SD card is simple, but it is hidden in the TomTom Home, that's why it's difficult to find it. Below are the instruction how to use the SD card.

1. Format the SD card (FAT32) and do not stick the SD in the slot yet
2. Run Backup (connect TomTom device to computer)
3. Disconnect TomTom from computer and turn off
4. Slide the SD into the slot and connect TomTom back to computer (choose "yes")
5. In the TomTom Home menu, Choosen Backup & Restore >>> and choosen Restore

TomTom Home will add all applications to the SD card. So the internal memory still have the applications and the SD card also had the same applications. Everytime you slide the card in, TomTom will automatic detect and use it as its primary storage, if it not detect, you can go to the device menu and pick the device to connect to.
Whenver you take the SD card out, then TomTom will use its internal memory.

Hope this helpful

TomTom One 2nd edition - Please help!

I experienced the exactly same problem/symptoms with the backup restore function today. After installing the new firmware application on my TomTom Go 510, I did a new backup of my TomTom using the Home Application,  I then attempted to "restore" that backup to two spare SD cards.  The dialog box indicated "restoring," but nothing was being restored. My work-around, which worked great, was to locate the Backup Storage folder on my hard drive, and Drag & Drop its contents onto the spare SD cards (after erasing them).
I'm running the TomTom Home application (v 1.5.106) on an Intel iMac, OSX 10.4.10.
