Cant distinguis the type of reset on my menu

d12-100 box does not have an hdmi port what it does have is a problem the signal level coming out of the box is to high install a 4 way splitter between the box and the tv line out of the box to the in of the splitter any port out of the splitter to the tv the problem you are having is called ghosting

Try the Flipper.  Its a simple remote control that does what you are looking for.

If you go into the DVR's Menu/Setup there will be menu selections to "Restart Receiver" and "Reset Receiver"
In the reset menu you should find three options "restart receiver" which is roughly equivalent (and possibly safer) than the reset button or a power cycle. "Reset defaults" will clear all of your preferences and personal setting without affecting recordings. "Reset Everything" pretty much returns the receiver to ground zero and deletes everything.

Make sure your internet connection is good, I had a wire go bad and drove us crazy, as a last result I changed it and the DVR came back to life. It needs internet to startup

Because the reciever has a internal issue. you will have to call directv and get a tech to bring a new one. to redo, turn of reciever and when you see the blue light power press 02468/

you would need to contact directv at 800-531-5000 and if programming it did not work, and setting it to default did not work, you may need a new remote. remote will cost about $15 unless you have the protection plan then it should be free depending on some circumstances.

Restart and on the first screen press 02468 it will force firmware update this should also remove "everything". If this doesn't work call Directv I know they can do it with the Rec. and Card #'s

Some of the new Radio Shack universal remotes will work .diff types out there .i would start there first
