Have a hitachi 55VS69A that the lamp blew out, replaced it and that bulb blew out

Not good news and about the only thing that will cause that is a very bad Ballast that powers and drives the lamp.

55 inch hitachi lcd projection tv has yellow and purple blur near the center of the screen

This, sadly is getting to be a very common problem with all Projection LCD TV's
Colored Blotches on an LCD Projection TV are usually caused by defects or marks on filters or lenses on one of the LCD panels themselves which are all located in the light engine (or optical block) First confirm that the lamp or main lens is not discolored by removing the lamp (unplug set and let cool before removing!) and visually inspecting the lamp itself and the lens that it shines onto. The light engine is an expensive part ($600-$1200) to replace and requires major disassembly. Have a tech confirm-Get an estimate -Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Hitachi model 60v500a.the middle of the screen is a little yello

If you Google "60v500a light engine" you will learn a few things about this set which was first sold in 2003.

There are some class action lawsuits out there for several Hitachi models made at about the same time.

Most of the time these sets develop a discolored area fairly large in the middle of the screen---a lot of them had a large red or pink oval area but other colors are possible.

This set uses a LAMP for the light source and it directs the light into the optical light engine--at the top of the engine is a 3 inch lens that the picture comes out of and is directed into the mirror which puts it on the screen.

Lots of these sets develop a "burn" inside the engine from the heat--there are a series of lens and baffles inside---even slight separation inside will change the color in some area of the picture.

I am sorry to give you bad news but I have replaced a lot of these engines under extended and when they were new mfg. warranty.

The part is no longer available from Hitachi new--the only way to get one is to remove the one in the set and have it sent out for "rebuild" and the last time I saw one the engine was over 600 dollars at the wholesale level not counting the fact that it is major labor to replace.

Find someone in your area familiar with Hitachi and this model and you will see what I am talking about.

Even though this is not good news, I think it is what your problem is.

I've replaced the bulb in my 55vs69a Hitachi and now it is not as bright as before. How common is it for a new bulb to be bad? Additionally, is there anything I can do short of replacing that bulb or...

It is always possible to get a bad lamp. Especially if it was not a Hitachi lamp assy.
If the replacement lamp was a generic, I would not trust it. Most all cases with a dim picture or dimmer picture after replacing the lamp have been the lamp it's self. Rarely have I seen the Ballast cause it.
Hope this helps,

I need both panels of the screen for a Hitachi 55VS69A. I don't really want to pay that much if possible.

You can find a new OEM Hitachi replacement lenticular screen and Fresnal screen (availble together as the screen assembly) for a model # 55VS69A from a major Hitachi distributor at the following links:

Hitachi 55VS69A Replacement Part Screen Assembly (Fresnal Screen w/ Lenticular Screen)

And here's a link for the protection screen if needed:

Phillips Magnavox 60 inch Projection Tv

That model is famous for having bacterial contamination in the CRT coolant causeing halos, and dim pictures with bad overall color issues. You can look into the lens of the CRTs when the set is laying and if the coolant looks cloudy or has any growth there you will notice it right away, and changing the coolant will restore color, clarity and brightness.

Sony KDF-E42A10 Screen is Not Bright

try a lamp first, through best buy their about $150 -250. If that fails it might be the optic block assembly which is about $1,000, and i just recently had replaced, and the picture is as bright and clear as when i got it two and half years ago
